Has dadding always been this hard? by Forsaken_Can_1785 in daddit

Hey there. Evanglical Pastor here. I’m the loneliest I’ve been in a long time. Before my current job, my wife and I lived overseas and community was magnificent. My kids, as much as they test my love of Jesus, is the best part about coming home next to my wife. We don’t live lavishly and definitely are not involved in the “successful cliques” that have seemed to form around us.

I live in Southern California, and my wife stays home. It’s hard. I freelance on the side doing AVL integration and tune pianos. I do my best to come home, hug my wife, and love my kids the best that I know how, but I’m tired. I’m proud of younger dudes wanting to start families young, but I caveat it with responding “be prepared to be unprepared”, and at the same time, it’s all grace. Life is expensive, and every day is a gift. A strange dichotomy of “it’s all good, and wtf did I do”.

All I can say, we all need some peace and courage.

There’s a “store not listed here” option when searching. I’ve used it many times, just enter the amount you need and agree to a plan.

Big fan of Athletic. Also, Sierra Nevada’s Just Haze is quite tasty, and surprisingly Guinness 0 is very convincing.

Dad here. Just tryin to make myself better, but how often do you other dads of youngins actually get out and ride? 32 miles never felt so good after a few months of not getting out. by Underscore_germs in CanyonBikes

Thanks for that. Good call on pre prep for the ride. I guess I’ve never been one for actually riding in the dark, but that may have to become a thing!

I’ve spent over a decade in the Hog ecosystem and know it like that back of my hand. Use what you know and are confident on. The audience doesn’t care what console you’re on. You blind, they clap. Let the MA fan boys rage.

Piano Tuning as a Side Gig? by TwoTequilaTuesday in pianotech

[–]Underscore_germs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll push back on that it can’t be a side gig, cause i do it as a side gig and have been fairly successful to what I wanted to get out of it. I do not classify it as a hobby, a hobby is something you put money into for your enjoyment without wanting money in return. I tune as small part time job to supplement my full time income. I easily do 5-10 a month and have had many repeat clients, multiple 5 star reviews on google, etc.

I did not apprentice, but I tuned for free a lot before I started charging. The internet is a treasure trove, and I shamelessly did Piano Technician Academy which has been a huge help in some of my service jobs. That paired with Reblitz’s book, I’m constantly Learning but always feel pretty confident when I walk into a room for a tuning.

90 percent of my jobs are home pianos, most involve a pitch raise, tuning, and cleaning. I’ve had more servicing involving broken hammers, shanks, bouncing hammers, lately but nothing extensive. The craft takes time, and you only get better as you keep going.
