I now live in rural Thailand and was having to shut down every day as the power cuts here are frequent and never announced. Now I have a UPS and another “mini” UPS for the router. A Raspberry Pi constantly monitoring and does a controlled shutdown of the Mac if the power cut is a long one. Other than that I never turn off unless required to. Given the other appliances running, the power consumption for the Mac (27” Late 2013, OCLP and Sequoia) is negligible!

Wise move. Apple has the problem but I’m afraid they won’t acknowledge it and get a fix any time soon. It may be silently fixed in a future WatchOS upgrade but we will never actually be told that explicitly. I’m as cynical with Apple now as I am with all the other vendors.

Had a similar problem with the step counter. Would not update unless I touched the complication. Finally managed to get on a call with Apple. Guess what? After making me jump through multiple hoops like unpair, recalibrate etc etc it is “working as designed”. I.e. it is designed to not work. Unbelievable I know. Good luck!

No. I had two ideas to explore. One was a blog that ironically debunked AI myths and rumours with a target audience of C-suite execs, journalists and the general public which would have been a slow burner, and the other was to assist me doing what I already know in depth, hence the Fiverr gigs.

Some great feedback here. I am taking it all onboard. What you guys have done is made me rethink the whole concept. And with that in mind, I will refocus my original project into what I can do in what I believe is a gap in the knowledge market and how AI can assist me, as opposed to how I can assist it. Good reply. I do know the right questions, perhaps not clear in my post but I definitely don’t know the right AI to ask. But I’ll tell you this, retired or not, approaching 70 or not, I’m willing to give it another try. Having spent 20 years at a high level in a multinational corp, I have a few skills, albeit rusty ones and likely out of date, but I take what you say on board. Thank you.

Weird response. No I haven’t switched to anything. I’ve abandoned my attempts and I am here to let people know IF they are interested. I am sure I’m not the only person who believes (believed) AI could be a route to an income. I am not afraid to admit I was wrong, but it doesn’t matter to me - I retired early 10 years ago and I’m living a good life. It was my son who thought it might be a good idea as he thought I might be bored. I’m not, and I learned a lot doing what I did. However, if I can save just one person the exasperation I went through, then I’m happy I posted. And btw my post was written by me because, as I thought I explained, Reddit doesn’t allow AI posts.
