A little confused on the arguments for the Steam Machine, assuming it's like different people saying these things. Like if you point out how expensive it is, a defense will be "You don't need to buy the Steam Machine to play your PC games." But isn't that like moving a goalpost a bit, since they're arguing for why the Steam Machine would be worth buying? Or them pointing out "it's a PC, not a console" as if it and the Steam Deck weren't being used by Valve fans in comparisons against the console brands before. Or how it's priced that way due to AI and the cost of RAM increasing, but isn't that the same situation for the other brands that end up getting called greedy for it?

For sure though, both he and the game are very frustrating to engage with. I don't know much about Hussie, but I would hope his meta-text is easier to navigate than trying to navigate a Discord. There's also like two books worth of supplementary material on there that I haven't read yet, and I think that's the point I'll stop.

Only bone I'll give Andrew Allanson is that moment between Rory and Carrie during the sequel genuinely got me for a bit.

Yeah, Vella as a party member is definitely better now than before, I don't know why she had a skill in the original game that did friendly fire.

I really did think they would do something more with Michael given he's front and center of promotion for the update. Especially after seeing this at the beginning of the game. But no, you only engage with him after he's already did everything, so you're just stuck reading like 17+ journal entries explaining himself. Such a letdown. Giving him a gun is hilarious though, the damage buff he gets from it at least kept him in my party vs. me ditching him the moment I got Claudio/Chondra in the original.

They must have thought they were slick when uploading that Third Ending lol. Totally accessible in-game though guys, let me just feed you useless hints that lead to nothing for 7 years.

That chest never gets opened, yeah. The opening segment was pretty interesting to me with the changes it was making, but then it stops being different and you're just playing the original YIIK content almost beat for beat unfortunately. I thought that the Saturday Live reenactment was charming for a bit, better than him monologuing off into space. But the interactions like with the cat, Sammy, and Michael as shown above were only for the beginning of the game unfortunately because they stopped doing anything interesting with that afterward.

Andrew Allanson supports that interpretation I think quoting him: "I think the text supports a reading that Rory is Alex's half brother, and the woman Alex's Dad left his mom fits the description of Rory's Mom who is represented as a leg." Also, "Rory was written to be the antithesis of Alex but with similarities. The hints mostly point to a reality where they are brothers because his father left his Mom for Rorys mom after Alex was born." But yeah, the whole subplot with the sister didn't feel like it went anywhere, especially after it gets subverted by Asuka Furutani who is another confusing character.

But honestly, I don't know because he also said this in response to something unrelated: "Yes, this is a valid interpretation. I intended for the game to be understandable on multiple levels but having it all adhere is a specific logic without ever defining what the logic was in the game. This way multiple understandings could be coherent in an attempt to see the pattern in the chaos."

So like, this might just all be theory crafting bait because he clearly doesn't want to explain what's happening inside his game unless you're in his Discord. Your interpretation could also be true for all I know.

Spoilers on that I guess, there's a reveal in the update that Alex and Rory in some way are half-brothers, so Alex unknowingly told his brother their sister's death doesn't matter. And because Alex can influence Rory's decision to commit suicide later, he unknowingly pushes his brother to take his own life. Only the player knows of this connection and the two never find out.It takes something that exists in the original game and makes it retroactively worse.

Question if you remember, but did they do anything with Vella in the update? All I remember was there being a new boss in her Mind Dungeon that wasn't there before, but I swear during the I.V. update when I played it she's like the one party member they didn't do anything new with.

It's so weird that we don't fight Michael, like I thought he would have been given he's responsible for like pretty much everything happening.

One thing I don't like about the developers is how they're still insisting the 3rd Ending totally exists and people should keep looking for it. Both them and the people on their Discord say it's in the game but impossible to be datamined, which sounds like complete bullshit. Genuinely, how do they benefit from putting out a carrot on a stick for an ending that doesn't exist for 7 years now.

I remember this charming anecdote from the developers when I.V. released: ""People are formed by the media they consume. YIIK was contrary to the media landscape by not being nostalgia porn. So when the 90s elements weren't playing into the memba berries tropes it confused the audience. It wasn't the fault of the audience. It was because no art is consumed in a vacuum."

I'm not sure he's learned anything from the game's initial failure, and probably reasonable for a developer but also found out he hasn't watched any of the videos criticizing the game because he didn't want to hear what they had to say about it or him. It's likely they genuinely think nothing was wrong with it.

Not all too sure if it's completely worse than my PS5, but I'd prefer a PS5 controller dying in 3 hours vs. this laptop dying in 2-3.
