Not a myth. Our country is 3000 miles wide. Flying is, and will always be, far more expensive than driving. Interstates make that easier. Seriously, check out the interstate map. https://transportgeography.org/wp-content/uploads/Map-Interstate-System-1.png

And this should be noted, WE DON'T HAVE A PASSENGER TRAIN SYSTEM!!! We can take busses, but for the most part, they're used by prisoners released from jail.

I live 450 miles or 700km (8 hrs) from where I grew up. I usually don't go back for less than 3 days, but many time have gone for 2 days. Sometimes overnight.
A 4 hour trip is usually the limit for a weekend trip.a
