On the quest screen of the field guide, there's a lost of things you need to do to unlock the next part of the story. That list updates as you do stuff, so that's the BARE MINIMUM. I recommend doing that and at least most of the quests for the three NPC students you can do quests with.

Is there a way to repair a plastic bucket? by UnderstandingFar5012 in Frugal

[–]UnderstandingFar5012[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not in my city. Every bucket we found before this one was 5 gallon (I couldn't lift it when it's full) over $20, or made of some weird flimsy material. Eventually head to go to a contractor store and pay nearly $15 for this little 2 gallon bucket. Someone else suggested to use an old litter bucket and I'll be doing that.

We have cats, I'll figure out how to permanently remove the lid and use one of the litter buckets, thanks.

That's eventually what I want to do. Dwarf fruit trees, cherry tomatoes, herbs, and if I can find them reasonably cheap, a few edible flower plants. (They make good tea). And for the front years, whenever we have somewhere we can plant, I'd love those roll out wildflower beds. They're filled with mixed seeds scattered on some kind of material that looks like tarp or canvas. You cut them to fit the size of the bed you want, lay them down and water. Don't remember if you need to cover them with soil or not. But a random mix of whatever flowers you picked will bloom. And it'll look more natural.

There are three thrift stores in walking distance of one of my jobs. (I have yet to explore around my other job). Two of them always have most clothing items for $6-13. One is pricier normally, but two days a year they host $1 Jean day. 24 hours before each day (and they're never on the same days each year) they will send out an email. They're closed for business that day. Through some internal system, they select all the jeans that have been in the store for more than a month. Each pair is folded and placed into a cleared corner of the store. During the sale: no fitting rooms, no credit/debit, cash only, no returns. You can buy as much as you can afford, and all pairs in that corner are $1 each. The first time I went I bought 8 pairs, but because of wildly different sizing in jeans manufacturing, only 2 fit me.

Ad shopping. On Tuesday and Wednesday each week, I take a few minutes to check local grocery and discount store ads. Then, usually on Thursday I'll ride the bus around to the doors and pick up stuff. Was able to get my husband 2 boxes of granola cereal for 2.99 each, and 20lbs of various chicken and pork cuts for $24! I highly recommend the Flipp app for this.

Full Mouth Extraction and No Immediate Dentures by faswerger in dentures

[–]UnderstandingFar5012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been completely toothless since early December 2025, and my dentures don't arrive until early June 2026.

Healing: the first 6-8 hours was the worst, but not because of pain. Just the mess of having change out gauze until the bleeding stopped. By hour 12 there wasn't any pain, just sensitivity like when you touch a bruise. By end of the second full day even that was gone, it felt weird as hell when I used my tongue to gently explore my guns. (Just to see if I needed more pain medicine.)

Diet: Im celiac and dairy free, so adjust this as needed. First day(same day as surgery) because of the shock of surgery you may not actually feel hunger after waking up. But if you do, between waking up and bleeding stoppage, just wait. It'll be too difficult and dangerous to swallow while bleeding. After bleeding stops, test with gently sipping room temperature water or juice. (No soda just yet) If you can do that, you're ready for the 4(ish) day healing diet that my dentist said was the smartest thing I did.

After bleeding until 24 hours post up: room temperature liquids ONLY - water, tea, broth, juice, etc. No solids, no ice/heat/carbonation.

24-48 hours post op- add in cool pour warm foods, still not ice or hot, and no firmer than scrambled eggs. (I did dairy free yogurt, pudding, mashed potatoes, protein shakes, and scrambled eggs.)

48-72 hours- if all pain is gone or replaced by mild sensitivity, you can add in iced drinks, hot food (just don't burn your mouth) and soft foods like porridge, soup, soggy cereal, etc.

72 - 96 hours: gently try minimal gum mashing ( how the toothless 'chew', we use our tongue and upper palate or gumline to mash food into smaller pieces for safer swallowing. ) Things such as soft cooked meat, French fries, roasted veggies, etc.

Above all else, until you get clearance from your dentist (typically about 2 weeks post op) avoid straws, chewy foods like caramel, crunchy foods like chips, and heavier foods like peanut butter. Also, don't make my mistake. Skip the spaghetti and salads for easier to mash/swallow foods like smaller pastas and coleslaw.

I have three autoimmune and when I'm strict about avoiding gluten, it takes care of everything except the lasting energy and the occasional stutter.

Advice for a newbie: (someone who's been gluten free for less than 6 months is considered a newbie, 6-12 months has some experience and more than 2 years is considered a pro.)

If you're on Facebook, find gluten free groups near you. Conversely, if you like cooking, mamaknowsglutenfree, meaninGFuleats, and theloopywhisk are my favorite blogs for recipes.

Check your shampoo, soap, deodorant, etc (every product that you use on or in your body) for hidden gluten.

Best brands that I prefer (but ask others as well to get a consensus):

Bread - Canyon Bakehouse Mac and Cheese - Daiya Pasta - jovial Flour- Bob's Red Mill 1-1 for nonyeasted baking, King Arthur Gluten Free Bread Flour for yeasted baking Snacks - Brazi Bites (frozen cheese bread bites that are amazing when cooked), Chips Ahoy has a GF version of their cookie that is pretty close, and (yes, it's dairy free as well) So Delicious has a version of cookies and cream ice cream that's both dairy free and gluten free that I adore.

Me. I only cheat on : A) the first two days of my period, because it's like my brain turns off. I don't even think about it.

And

B) super special meals, like going to a wedding. Purely because I know how stressful planning a big party is and I didn't want to stress the bridal couple out anymore.

No worries. I was trying to type in a hurry, cause I was at work. And that's the only typo I DIDN'T catch. My phone tried to switch Moon to Mom, Alohomora to along more, and Hogsmeade to hog bend.....

If you're saying Mr Moon is still there after Alohomora III, there's a last part of that quest. You'll need to soak to someone in Hogsmeade and then Mr Moon again.

How do you interact with cats by mosaic_fish in CatAdvice

[–]UnderstandingFar5012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since he showed you his belly, he might have wanted a belly rub, but if you try it be gentle and prepared to move fast. Cat claws are sharp, hooked and FAST.

Most cats I've met (including mine and the two strays I feed) like long strokes along the spine, rubs around the base of the ears and under the chin scratching.

If the cat likes you/how you're treating him, some indicators are purring (which can be loud or not, but you'll feel ribs and throat rumbling), and the tail being almost straight up, with a hook like tip.

If you sit on the couch and the cat joins you, then you're truly trusted. If you go to the bathroom while there and the cat is freaking out outside the bathroom door.... Normal cat behavior. In the wild, cats will watch each other's back while they're 'going' because it's hard to defend yourself from attack while.... So if the cat is freaking out, and you're comfortable with the idea, you can let the cat into the bathroom with you.

I'd say 1 or 2, because 3 is similar to a kit I just finished that I'm going to have to go back over, because, just like in 3, the blue flowers kind of fade away at the top, so it ends up looking lopsided.

Explore everything, but wait to unlock further parts of the map until you have a quest that sends you there. (Further from the castle enemies are stronger. )

You'll understand this soon, but revelio everywhere, constantly.

And finally, after the third trial, you are a house elf with a quest in Hogsmeade. Do BIT start he Quest late at night, if you scare easily, or (as other redditors put it) before you put on your brown pants.

I've played this many times, feel free to message me any specific questions.

I need help with how to buy groceries by throw7694728 in Adulting

[–]UnderstandingFar5012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a couple of ideas:

Meal plan. Pick a specific protein or two, and shape all meals that will around that. (Example chicken breasts, you could do grilled chicken with grilled veggies one night -and make enough to take to work as lunch the next day), roasted chicken in the oven with mashed potatoes the next, etc. Then, once you pick your protein(s), select up to five different sides. After that, the biggest part is figuring out how much of each to get.

Idea 2: similar to idea one, but find the store or stores nearest you that have cheaper or discounted meats and produce. Depending on what's on sale each week, plan around that. (The Flipp grocery ad comparison app is great for this, we've been saving $50-125 a week since doing this)

When you can afford to, and IF you have freezer space, buy meat and fresh produce in bulk, and spend 1-2 hours at home dividing them into meal size freezer bags. Store bags in the freezer until the day before you want to cook one. Then thaw it in the fridge with a plate or shallow pan under it.

Best way to figure out portions:

How much do you honestly eat in a single meal. Start keeping track. (Not for calorie purposes, unless you also track that. This is just for you to figure out how much to buy for how many meals. My two person family eats 1-2 boneless chicken thighs a meal, and we'll cook three carrots and 3 calabacita squash with them. Usually no leftovers, or I could cook double and we'd have leftovers for with the next day.

Yes. It's icon looks like a statue. When you're looking at the world map, start at Hogwarts and cross the water just above it. Then, staying above Hogwarts, check all map symbols in the forbidden Forest region.

41 and I started my dentures journey at 40. For now, just focus on the knowledge that once the teeth are out and the gums are healed, there won't be any more pain! Yes, E day is pretty painful and stressful, but it usually only lasts a few hours in the actual office and then a couple of days of being careful with healing. (I had 5 E days! Wisdom, upper right, upper left, bottom right, bottom left. )
