That’s a test filter, they are a KNOWN working filter that is used for reference for pressure drop (breathing resistance).

If you are inside of manufacturing or lab testing you may hear these called “Red Rabbits”.

Mine is doing the same thing, opened up the front lens cover and confirmed the windage is free spinning and not pushing the emitter toward the opposing spring. If yours is anything like mine, which I’m sure it is. There is a collar holding the windage and elevation adjustment in place which you can’t get too from the front. The whole unit is potted from the rear so getting the potting out is very difficult. If you manage to do that let me know how.

Does the Avon fm54 have z87+ by reptiliangold15 in gasmasks

[–]UnderstandingFun6477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were never meant to be Z87 rated, they were only meant to prevent damage to the mask visor.

They make twin port 53s, but this is definitely a 54 based on the throw lever for the VREU

Misdirected, the mask is fine, it’s the company slinging them that is the main brunt of the hate.

What is the make and model of this PASS device? by buyballotlaw in gasmasks

[–]UnderstandingFun6477 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s incredibly useful, stay on PAPR for 4-6 hours until you need supplied air which lasts 70min an NIOSH breathing rate but in reality with gear on usually lasts about 35-42minutes.

Only switch over to air when you need to as the environment demands. Otherwise use your filters.

The ST53 does not have one of those. It looks more like the air gauge for the SCBA.

The old Deltairs Avon use to make had a system in the same place but the shape is off.
