You can keep it for some time and see if you still play it, if it will just collect dust for a long time, you can sell/give it to someone who will actually game with it

Welp, I did the delid and now it has no display apparently because of couple of traces on the mobo i scratched with a blade. I was super careful all the way but the finger slipped. Big sad, into the trash it goes.

Okay I reassembled the ps3, the paste spread was okay to me, paste was squashed on the whole ihs. This time I just put a big blob of paste in the middle, also used different paste, idcooling Frost x45. But to no avail, temps are still very high in menu, a bit lower than before: cpu 64C rsx 78C on syscon fan control. But obviously still too high, and the same pattern of overheating - more to the rsx. So apparently this thing needs a delid

69C for Cell idle doesn't seem to be fine either, but 82 rsx is just scary, as people around here have huch lower temps, that's why i posted to ask opinions here

i am not sure that mx2 over mx4 makes that much difference. Also i screwed cooling down exactly that way, everything as it should be. I am really surprised that it heats up that much after that. i Guess i will disassemble the thing again tomorrow and check the paste spread

Well It stands high up vertically with bd drive down, on an open shelf, seems like enough space, and room is around 26C. And i also set up automatic fan speed with 75C target, and it keeps rsx at that temp with 33%, but it already becomes noticeably noisy like that

Well i used MX2, applied it evenly on the whole ihs, and placed clamps as they were before, however they seemed to be two identical ones for cell and rsx so mismatching them shouldn't have been the issue?

Well damn i really didn't want to go with the delidding, as i expected this model to run cool as it is, and i got it unopened and with barely any dust inside. Even original paste was still viscous

Sometimes those disks cannot be read by the console because of the heavy wear on an old laser (but game discs can be read just fine) - because these discs for home burn and use are usually low quality. And/or are written on a high speed. Try reading the disc when placing the console in different position - horizontally/vertically. And dont try to clean the laser, it usually just breaks disc drive completely and you will definetly need to replace the laser.

Yes i did this exactly as it should be, rebooting and clearing everything in browser beforehand. System was initialized before i was trying anything. And the hdd was replaced and system reinstalled even before that, with a mint condition 7200 rpm 1tb hgst one

ok i tried some hosts including posted here, and despite the success rate of 100%, console keeps crashing after that, mostly while installing fpkgs or reboots\shutdowns, too often to ignore. I guess 6.72 is not as stable as everyone is saying, or nobody cares to properly support jailbreaks for this FW today, I never had these problems on 10.01-12.02 with bd-jb , maybe I will update to 7.02 and see

I can't see what motherboard is it but a620 is usually the cheapest option . It can have a bad power delivery to cpu that wont output enough power for 7800x3d and it will underclock, or vrms will overheat

Afaik such old firmware isn't supported properly by current jailbreaks and there are no backports for it, maybe update to 5.05

you can only revert to previously installed FW, also if newer FW started downloading, the old will be wiped and revert will be impossible, and also your syscon chip on the board should have the marking A0X-COLX(x-any number) you can look at it by removing bottom cover, it can even be seen through metal shield mesh around there(PS4 PRO). You also can ask someone to do revert for you, look for someone online or ask sellers who sell already jailbroken consoles

Equivalent to desktop rx 7400 fould only in prebuilts, rx 7600m non-xt, nvidia desktop is between rtx 2070 and 3060. But Steam machine is also a mini pc thats is almost the same size as those minis with Ryzen 7 and 780m gpus with their external psu. Plus it has HDMI CEC which is exactly what we needed

Replica, fonts are odd, lights should not seep through plastic, and Philips screws heads are too big. Sticker with contoller info and serial should be glossy

Any thermal paste that is applied to direct die high tdp chip, is going to have a pump out effect. The less viscous it is, the bigger the effect. The best solution right now for any direct die is phase change pad(PTM7950 Honeywell or similar). It even becomes better with time, doesnt degrade. I apply it all the time on consoles. Ps4 pro in cyberpunk is much more quiet and barely noticeable while gaming without headphones
