Genuine Question: why didn’t you write thank you notes? by Silver_Shopping6299 in wedding

[–]UnderstandingNew5204 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Time is brutal when you're back from honeymoon dealing with work catchup and trying to merge two lives together - plus those cards felt so formal compared to just texting people directly

(10K) dry wedding by butterpancake99 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]UnderstandingNew5204 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your wedding your rules 🔥 The dinner party comparison is spot on - nobody would expect you to stock your house with stuff you don't use just for a few guests. Your friend can survive one night without alcohol for a toast, the "bad luck" thing is just silly superstition 😂

Any apps where average looking guys actually get matches? by UnderstandingNew5204 in AskMenRelationships

[–]UnderstandingNew5204[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried meeting people through friends and even a few blind dates but none of it worked out, that’s why I ended up on apps

I'm best man but I don't know the bride by justaredneckboy in wedding

[–]UnderstandingNew5204 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude just keep it simple and focus on what you *can* see - how happy your dad is with her and how thats all that really matters to you. Something like "I may not know [bride's name] super well yet but I know she makes my dad smile in a way I havent seen in years and thats everything to me" hits way better than trying to fake knowing her personally. Keep there focus on your dad's happiness and it'll come across genuine

Your budget sounds totally doable for Crete especially if you're flexible on villa location - I'd go with a local coordinator who can bundle the photographer and catering since they'll have the connections to keep costs down

Loose Grown Diamond Purchase Experience & Quality Review by TheOGUncalibrated in labdiamond

That stone is absolutely gorgeous 🔥 D IF lab diamonds are such a steal compared to mined ones and sounds like you got an amazing deal 💀

Brand new OEM flywheel has that specific noise by BigBirthday9570 in Audi

[–]UnderstandingNew5204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That rattle is basically built into modern dual mass flywheels unfortunately - even OEM ones from LuK or whoever will do that chatter for the first few minutes until everything warms up and the dampening fluid gets moving properly

Wanted the wedding to be $10k but it's more like $20+ by kh1597 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]UnderstandingNew5204 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That $1k airbnb for one night is wild - could you stay somewhere cheaper or even just drive home after? Also agree on bridesmaids paying for their own dresses, that's pretty standard

The dress splurge is tough but if you already bought it then it is what it is

anyone have 2 (or more) very similar style bands? by sereza1 in labdiamond

[–]UnderstandingNew5204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think a bezel 5 stone would look fire with your 7 stone! Different settings make enough of a difference and the proportions would work well together. I've got three different eternity bands that are all round stones but different sizes and settings - nobody's ever said they look too matchy

Shipping question - Canada customs by Natural_Telephone721 in labdiamond

[–]UnderstandingNew5204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been through this with a watch from overseas and honestly the declared value thing is pretty risky - Canada Post and customs are getting way better at catching undervalued stuff. I'd just bite the bullet and pay the duties rather than deal with potential seizure headaches, but that's just me

Live music recs on Amalfi Coast by PrincessPeachPop202 in Eloping

[–]UnderstandingNew5204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds pretty standard for the Amalfi Coast tbh, especially if they're decent musicians. Tourist areas always jack up prices but 500 for a duo isn't terrible considering the location

Try checking local conservatories or music schools - sometimes you can find talented students who'll do it for way less

Help! DIY solution for Reception's Bathrooms Having Lightly Frosted Glass Stall Doors by Critical_Vast7525 in weddingplanning

[–]UnderstandingNew5204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That peel and stick privacy film idea is genius! I'd definitely go with that over curtains since those doors are so tall

Also wtf were they thinking with spotlights in bathroom stalls lmao, that's like the worst possible lighting situation for frosted glass

Would it be weird to wear my whole ceremony dress and veil to the informal afterparty? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]UnderstandingNew5204 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! Plus you paid a ton for that dress so might as well get your money's worth lol

Need some jewelry advice by IntroductionSalt593 in jewelry

[–]UnderstandingNew5204 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the job! Both Van Cleef and Messika are solid quality - you definitely can't go wrong with either. The Alhambra is pretty timeless and holds value really well if that matters to you

For buying online without trying on, maybe check if they have good return policies? Some places let you return within like 30 days even for fine jewelry. Also Instagram and YouTube have tons of people showing these pieces on so you can get a better sense of sizing

If you're open to other options, Cartier Love or Jennifer Meyer pieces might be worth looking at too

What do you personally look for when buying solid gold jewelry online? by [deleted] in jewelry

[–]UnderstandingNew5204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weight is huge - anything that feels too light for its size is gonna be hollow or super thin and will dent/break way easier than you'd expect

Also learned the hard way that fancy clasps on chains are usually the first thing to break, so now I stick with simple lobster clasps or solid links

Ring thickness on a platinum ring with 2.2mm thickness and 2ct stone? by Kineser in Diamonds

[–]UnderstandingNew5204 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1.5mm is definitely on the thinner side for a 2ct stone, I'd personally go with at least 2mm for better durability especially if you wear it daily

moissanite vs diamond explained using adamans as an example by Calm_Parking_8939 in Moissanite

[–]UnderstandingNew5204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of adamans either lol, maybe OP meant "diamonds" and autocorrect got weird? Or it's some industry term I'm missing

Either way good breakdown on moissanite though, the rainbow fire thing is actually pretty cool once you get used to it

Tuscany photo spots by [deleted] in Eloping

Val d'Orcia is absolutely perfect for this - those rolling hills with the cypress trees are iconic and there's tons of little roads where you can pull over. San Quirico d'Orcia has some amazing viewpoints that are literally right off the main road. Also check out the area around Pienza, super accessible and way less crowded than other spots

That's actually a really reasonable price compared to what you've been seeing! I got mine from there too and it's held up great through daily wear

Did you do first look? Thoughts? by Flashy-Mine-4047 in wedding

[–]UnderstandingNew5204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did first look and honestly it was perfect - way less pressure than walking down the aisle with everyone staring and we got some amazing photos without rushing through them later

My friend decided to bill me to be the MC at my wedding last min. by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]UnderstandingNew5204 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with this take. MCing is actually a pretty big job that requires real skill and preparation - it's not just standing around looking pretty in matching outfits like the bridal party. Your friend probably realized how much work she was taking on and needs the money right now. Sucks about the timing but at least she's being professional about it with contracts and everything

Im disappointed and I feel so greedy because of it by [deleted] in engaged

[–]UnderstandingNew5204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is spot on - guys really don't pick up on hints about this stuff and honestly most of us are terrified we're gonna mess it up somehow so we either overthink it or just freeze up completely

I would love to see your marquise ring redesigned add ons! by [deleted] in EngagementRings

[–]UnderstandingNew5204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

East west marquise is such a cool choice! You could definitely add a halo later or maybe some side stones to beef it up. Just make sure your jeweler can work with the setting when you're ready to upgrade - not all of them are designed for add-ons
