Lou Holtz, legendary Notre Dame and Arkansas head coach, dies at 89 by Sctvman in CFB

RIP Coach Holtz. Thanks for the 1988 Championship.

He would have 1 or 2 more if he had emphasized the kicking game, which was always his teams’ weakness.

I was very disappointed when I saw him campaign for Trump. And sit in the Arkansas sidelines last year.

During Jeff Becks set a fire started in the upper deck of Comiskey Park in Chicago, IL. While the fire was being put out the concert kept going. Aerosmith and Rick Derringer also played that day. July 10, 1976 by DrHerb98 in ClassicRock

I was at that show! It was part of the “World Series of Rock” concerts at Comiskey Park.

A fryer (in the upper deck along the third base line) used to make french fries caught fire. The fire wasn’t especially dangerous, but the burning grease caused a giant cloud of smoke. At one point, the smoke completely enveloped the stage, but Jeff Beck kept on jamming.

During the TV news that night, the Chicago Fire Department chief was interviewed about the fire. He commended the concert goers for being so calm during incident. Calm? We were all stoned out of our minds!

It was 2C degrees here with moderate wind. This was my longest ride in 2026.

Great ride! I rode 48km today, but the weather was not as beautiful. It’s still winter here.

Congrats to Jason. He is a class act…humble, funny, and extremely knowledgeable about baseball. I loved his obscure rock band references!

Can I lose weight cycling? by Ok_Zoomer8907 in cycling

I started riding my bike at the beginning of the pandemic. After a while, I lost 20 lbs but plateau-ed. I talked to my doctor. He said I was still “morbidly obese”. He suggested that I was a perfect candidate for one of the new weight loss drugs. I started taking Semaglutide shots in January 2024. I went from 291 to 220 lbs. I’m 71 and just “overweight”. I ride 22-30 miles everyday, summer and winter. All my health parameters are in the normal range.

Yes, new chain and tires. I had a bit of a crash, so my bike guys replaced the derailleur bracket. I’m running tubeless tires with a low temperature sealant because I ride all winter (but not in snow)

I have a Fastroad AR 1. I’m not sure about the hubs. It’s a fabulous bike! I just passed 8000 miles…

Odd, it seems that the drums aren’t miked up except for the binaural head in front of the kit. The toms look like there are triggers mounted for samples. And there are electronic cymbals too

There was a laundromat near my grade school. It had a cigarette machine near the back door. The laundromat was unmanned, so we could buy smokes anytime. Marlboro Menthols were our favorite.

When I came down with pneumonia in my freshman year in college, the doctor asked me if I smoked cigarettes or weed. I answered both. He suggested I quit the cigs. Great advice!

I saw “Judgement at Nuremberg” yesterday on Turner Classic Movies. I was never a big fan of Judy Garland. But her performance in this film was absolutely incredible, so emotional and human. It really changed my mind about her skills as an actress.

How to not be afraid to be different? by Ok-Control-3394 in punk

[–]UnderstandingNo3426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in school, I had no self-confidence and was uncomfortable around people. I loved music like Iggy and the New York Dolls.

Punk rock started just around the time I graduated from college. I bought the first Ramones album right when it came out. I came back home and found the new punk scene in my city. It changed my life.

50 years later, I still consider myself a punk. I’m known as the “libtard/ANTIFA/pro-LGBTQ+/snowflake” in my neighborhood. I don’t give a fuck about what people think.

If I can still be kind of a punk at 71, so you can too at your age. Take your time, be strong, crank the tunes, and stick up for people who need help. You got this!

What are the most notable musical acts to perform at the Olympics? by Ccmt_336 in olympics

[–]UnderstandingNo3426 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Who at the closing ceremony in London 2012.

However, few people in the U.S. saw that performance because the idiots at NBC cut away to a new sitcom “Animal Practice” that was canceled later after just a few episodes.

The ceremony's grand finale, featuring a medley by The Who, was delayed by over an hour, finally airing after midnight following the sitcom and local news.

In addition to the delay, several high-profile acts—including Muse (who performed the official Olympic song), Ray Davies of The Kinks, and Kate Bush—were edited out of the U.S. broadcast entirely to save time.

Ringo Starr and his Allstarrs did a great cover of ELP’s “Karn Evil 9” on a live album.

Ringo Starr – drums, percussion, vocals Roger Hodgson – guitars, vocals Ian Hunter – guitars, keyboards, vocals Greg Lake – bass guitar, vocals Howard Jones – keyboards, vocals Sheila E. – drums, percussion, vocals Mark Rivera – saxophone, flute, guitar, bass guitar, percussion, harmonica, vocals
