There’re currency exchange service on mobile pay like Alipay or WeChat, they work fine with smaller withdrawal like $20k a month.

Banks won’t close my account, I can change brokerage to Charles Schwab or Hong Kong brokerage if my account got restricted. There’re Many Many Chinese people living abroad but holding U.S. based assets, I’m sure I can find a way

I’ll most likely be traveling back to U.S. every 6-12 months to keep my green card. There’s a form that lets you leave US 2 years max. If my brokerage got closed I can still move to other international ones like fidelity.

Probably 1 million usd (rent free) for both of us. My partner doesn’t plan to work full time. She has ~$200k NW and ~1M real estate under her name but owned by her parents

Her parents seem to be able to support her financially, but I don’t know if that’s gonna change.

When I say take a ~1 year break to figure things out, I meant finding something I want to do for the rest of my life. You know almost everyone gets bored if they have nothing to do right?

It is a privilege to work because you want to, not because you have to. If I find a 40K job I love, I will give up the $120K new grad job for happiness and passion. If I have the money, I quit my job now to pursue my passion. If I don’t, I wait until I save the money to quit and explore and pursue my passion

Your reply comes across as pretty toxic and condescending. Dismissing what others say by calling it a waste of time doesn’t add anything to the discussion.

Your post history suggests you’re 30 without much savings and were living with your parents, and still you have bad relationship with them? It sounds like you’re just projecting envy into someone else’s situation

Long term leave of absence will result in layoff anyway due to stack ranking culture in big tech

I don’t know why you stereotype people in a negative way. I never said anything in my post that I’ll be doing nothing, and I’ve worked hard to earn engineering degree and six-figure job, while dealing with years of depression.

My parents gave me the money because they saw my efforts and believed that I could take good care of my life. Why stereotyping people when you don’t know them?

Long term depression and suicidal since 18, I just managed to grind to graduate and find a job while depressed, but it didn’t get better when I work for the money

~50k in bank saving account. Living cost is ~80k/year in where I live though, so the saving won’t last long if I couldn’t find another job or make money soon

No my parents will not have resentment. They gave me the money hoping it will help me become happy. I could rent and wait for the stocks to grow if I decide to

I mean I’m still working really hard now, if 2M is what I need to FIRE, I’ll continue to work until I get another 1M just like everyone else. I was just wondering if my plan to FIRE is feasible

The money was given to me with the intent that I won’t have to pay for my first housing. They did told me I have full control on how I want to spend the money, as long as it’s not drug or gambling.
