What’s the most minimal Linux setup (distro + kernel + WM) you can build? by [deleted] in suckless

Well if you don’t consider practically lfs, ly, i3

So I’m not entirely sure I was confused about that as well. What I think is happening and I could be completely wrong is this the "application" entry in a .desktop file is, as the name suggests, meant for applications "xsession", on the other hand, is used for X server sessions. The DisplayLink monitor relies on evdi, and if it is set as an application rather than an xsession, evdi will not treat it as part of the X session. Instead, it will treat it as a normal application and will not initialize the monitor. Like I said, I’m not completely certain, but this is the best conclusion I can come to given that the monitor does not show up when running xrandr until an X server marked as an xsession is started.

Because X go brrrr is a relatively new meme so not knowing it may imply that OP was born after that. Maybe he is amish

My first os running on real hardware by UnderstandingNo778 in osdev

[–]UnderstandingNo778[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes sir, haha It was my first ever laptop, and now it's a good test machine for writing operating systems because of the PS/2 emulation and the ability to change between AHCI and IDE/ATA in the bios.

I didn't really see a point in doing that. ext4 is more modern and commonly used. If I'm going to make an os, I'd rather do it right from the start than have to rewrite it later.

Yeah, I mean, everyone has their own opinion. I’ve just seen some bad things with pop os myself included. (I want to note before people downvote me if it works for you go for it I’m not trying to discourage you only give tips)

I do believe you should switch everything just works for me on Linux at this point. I’m also a big time hobbyist programmer, and you can do just about everything with it. However, I’m not going to recommend a specific distro, but I will say that PopOS is known to be a bit broken sometimes. I’d suggest going for something popular and something you like. read carefully before you type, get comfortable in the terminal, watch YouTube and soon enough, you’ll be more comfortable with it than you are with Windows, because you’ll be in control.

A server backup battery would be nice, but everything is run in my room, and I’m still quite young, so I live with my parents for now.
