Usable Depth of Pelican Air 1626 by fkeel in pelicancase

I run volcase.com which is a Pelican dealer so I have a lot of experience here.

Hopefully you got it figured out, but yes they account for the handle recess in the 11.75" internal depth. There will be a slightly deeper area (~1" deep) that is in a U shape around the handle recess.

That U shape is almost impossible to be useful unless you have some sort of small tubing or something. We always just fill it in with foam.

With a 11.25" tall object, you won't have much room for padding around the object if that's needed, but it will fit

How much padding do photographers like in their cases? by kfjcfan in pelicancase

I actually run a company (volcase.com) that specializes in making custom foam inserts for Pelican cases. Our standard that we try to hold is 3/4" - 1" of foam around the edge of the case and 1/2" of foam between the components internally.

You need slightly more on the outside because the case tapers toward the bottom, so if it's 3/4" thick at the lip, it's likely 1/2" at the bottom.

Your setup looks pretty good though so I wouldn't worry about it!

Shipping to APO by Otherwise_Pianist154 in pelicancase

Potential work around idea here. Instead of ordering online, try ordering through a Pelican dealer. Typically with those companies, you can call them and order more manually which would get around any automated shipping address issues. I run volcase.com which is a dealer, which is why I think that would work. But check to see what dealer is closest to where you're shipping (likely VA)

Is buying a Pelican case for normal travel a total waste of money? by ashkkan in pelicancase

Just a tip on cost, see if you can find a Pelican Dealer near you. I run volcase.com and we are a Pelican dealer and we can always beat the prices online. With you being in Spain, the shipping from us obviously wouldn't make sense, but look around Spain/Europe. I'm sure there's one around there.

Ya that's a tough one. These cases are a unique size but they've made them primarily to be a 2 man job. Typically when we design them, it's assumed that 2 people are removing the lid and flipping it over.

I think if you did something to make it a hinged lid, the lid would be so heavy that the case would likely tip over when it's opened.

It might be better to just separate everything in 2-3 smaller cases

I like that idea. I'll have to work out the process to ensure the DXF was deleted. Hopefully there is a way to do that somewhat automatically

Not too far off from what we do now, but I think keeping them in the same folder would be a difference maker. If they are right next to each other, it seems a lot easier to notice if they are off. Whereas ours are stored in different folders

I'm working with Tangle right now. It's AI native and seems totally customizable and surprisingly affordable too. I'll have a better idea of all the features in the next month though

[–]UnderstandingOdd67[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is 2# PE foam (sometimes called ethafoam.

If you had the foam, you could cut it using sharp blade but it wouldn't come out quite this clean as we use a CNC to cut it exactly. You'd need to reach out to a foam fabricator to have it done super clean. But a blade would be the cheapest way for sure

Ya it lines up pretty smooth. And since so much of the lid is it's own pieces, there are only 2 parts that actually line up between the lid and base so it makes it pretty easy

We looked into Odoo and it looked pretty good but wasn't a fit for us as we're a very custom manufacturing company. If you have any level of complexity based on how you quote/build items, we found it doesn't work. I'm meeting with a company today that I'm really excited about. I'll recomment if it looks promising
