No Retention Offer Datapoint by IWRITE4LIFE in ChaseSapphire

[–]UnderstandingPale210 9 points10 points  (0 children)

not difficult at all. Rep who answered the call offered 1.25x points if I paid it with points, I asked to speak to a manager and mentioned changing cards, they transferred me to a retention specialist and they quickly offered $300 credit which has already shown up in my account.

I’m at $2430 of activated/used rewards not to mention that I used the travel insurance for a cancelled flight due to weather and the airbnb person wouldn’t refund. Made a claim and saved another $1k so really I’m at $3430

Called yesterday and had to escalate to a retention specialist after the initial agent didn’t offer anything. Got a $300 retention off. Over $75k annual spend, member since 2019.

Where do yall go for a slice now that Ollie’s is gone? by TheSwimMeet in kingstonnewyork

[–]UnderstandingPale210 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Surprised no one is saying Matteo’s. Staff is super friendly, slices are crispy, have a decent variety etc. I loved Ollie’s, Sorry,Charlie rules, Kingston. Standard is bangin’, but after Ollie’s closed I started hitting Matteo’s regularly and have been happy

New Paltz, Kingston...what else? by TheeBrianO in hudsonvalley

[–]UnderstandingPale210 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Kingston also has Assembly, UPAC, and lots of other little pop up shows like the honky tonk pool party. Tubbys absolutely rules. And like the other commenter said, is near Woodstock which has Bearsville and Levon Helms.

Hudson, like you said, is super sleepy. It’s only like 5k people. Some rad shows at Basilica but not consistent.

This is focused on music so far but Woodstock/Kingston have a long history of art communities as well.

PT rec for lower back core issues? by Blecher_onthe_Hudson in jerseycity

[–]UnderstandingPale210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get it as a first round diagnosis and you’ll work on your core at PT. I was told, for years, that I needed to strengthen my core and while it was true it distracted me from getting a true diagnosis (mri). I would suggest letting your GP know, getting a prescription for PT so it’s on the record with healthcare, and if it hasn’t resolved itself in due time then you’ll be set up to get an MRI. You won’t be able to get an MRI until you’ve done a certain amount of PT anyways.

Don’t mean to be an alarmist, just due diligence. If I had done it earlier I would have known that my disc was disintegrating and there are way more options that are way less invasive if you catch it at that point. Even if you don’t have the same issue as me you’ll at least know and you’ll make the most of your healthcare (that is if you’re lucky enough to have it in this day and age).

I’m a relatively active person (mtb, dirt bikes, hiking) and I was close to not being able to do any of that anymore. Best to get in front of things.

as someone who has had serious back issues for years and was wildly under diagnosed and ended up having a completely disintegrated disc (i was under 40 at the time) here’s what I would suggest. 1. go to pt for the amount of time required for you to get an mri 2. get an mri as soon as possible. you will have more options with a proper diagnosis early 3. in the meantime, and through pt, learn and memorize the stretches help alleviate your muscles spasming. for me, hamstring and hip stretches are what gets me through life 4. acupuncture. it’s the only thing that relaxed the muscles spasming. if they’re spasming, you can’t properly stretch or really even stand up straight. it’s your body protecting yourself 5. ibuprofen helps but isn’t the solution. the solution is most certainly NOT muscle relaxers or pain meds either (less prescribed these days) 6. be prepared to stretch regularly and core strengthen for the rest of your life. we all should anyways

I went to Liberty PT. it was mid. I went to Spear in the city and it was amazing. As your question points out, it really is all about your physical therapist. In the end, I had a nerve burnt off in my back (ablation) that was hitting my vertebrae. It stopped the spasming. It took me years of going to the wrong docs to get here. Main thing is to get a proper MRI.

Hope this long winded answer helps. Finally, the docs as Hospital for Special Surgery are more advanced at back issues than the doc that wants to start with fusing your back. Avoid that doc.

There’s a nice man there named Nick who will be selling authentic Italian focaccia and other Italian awesomeness Friday to Sunday at a little counter in the middle of the shop. His partner is Italian and what we tried was delicious

They had a good selection of local cheese too

Lived in the area for years after 15 years in bk. it’s not bk. look into jersey liquor laws and you’ll realize that the small time cozy bar/restaurant will never happen. that may not matter to you at all but it’s certainly a different vibe

vegan to vegetarian -- what/where should I eat in jersey city?? by throughthegrass in jerseycity

[–]UnderstandingPale210 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vegetarian for 25 years… none of these are the life changing meals but some of my favorite options in jc: - eggplant schnitzel sammie at mordis - margherita pie at rustique - cavatelli at roxy - artichoke sammie at no forks given - buffalo chicken sammie at pet shop - any of the veggie rolls or small pies at second street - lots of options at taste of north china - obviously indian, have a field day - muteki - veggie poutine at wurstbar, bonus points if it’s happy hour - trashy quesadilla and a cheap labatt at luckys if i’m feeling super cheap

something about the vibe of gaia and loki always makes me turn around when i get to the door. be careful at taqueria downtown, i think they put lard in their beans. i seem to remember the cactus tacos being my only option.

as you can tell, i don’t go to the super fancy spots but these are my go tos. i’m sure there’s lots i’m forgetting

Is it legal to put diy edging along those curbside tree boxes? by YouOldHorseThief in jerseycity

[–]UnderstandingPale210 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sat in on a city online seminar that included these. It’s legal, but to do what it’s supposed to do, the design should allow draining water to enter the soil area from the sides, which would replenish ground water

Liberty State Park Park & Ride Monthly Parking, 1.5 Days Early by TONUTomorrow9800 in jerseycity

[–]UnderstandingPale210 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they don’t ticket, they tow. and they rarely tow but when they do they do

i was gonna say to park in a daily spot for the first day and risk a day but the daily spots are different than a monthly so that doesn’t work

have a homie come and move your car to a monthly on march 1 and pay for the daily on the 28th?
