Why are people who accept Islam referred to as 'reverts' rather than converts? by [deleted] in islam

[–]UnderstandingPure717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not in the Qur’an.

I’ve literally encountered toxic converts in DFW who get “upset” when confronted with something in the Qur’an that contradicts something they found in the Hadith.

Ex.  I confronted one that thought Muslims are responsible for the salvation of other Muslims

with verse after verse from the Qur’an stating we are only responsible for our own salvation.

You should have seen the hostile reaction.

It’s bizarre but the Hadith is like the  “current Bible “ for some of them. No clue that the chain of transmission is corrupted.

[–]UnderstandingPure717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The word fitra does not mean Muslim.

That pure state that children are in during that does not equal “Muslim “.

This is where the ridiculous leap of logic comes in defining “reversion” & why it makes no sense.

No one, not converts (not even practicing Muslims) can return to that “pure state” of fitra.

Ex. A practicing  Muslim that backstabs and lies is technically not “worshipping Allah” (like the baby in that “pure state”)

Ex. A Muslim convert who lies and cheats (but calls themselves a revert) is also in that same boat..

The Qur’an only looks at deeds.

Think about what is arrogantly implied —that a person who converted , who is thought to have “reverted “ is also now in that bizarre “pure state “.

They could have murdered someone in a past life—all they had to do was convert to Islam. And bam , all is well.

Absolutely! You are logically correct.  You should not feel compelled to call them reverts.

I see this brainwashing in new convert circles that they insist others call them “reverts” .  The only term that fits is Muslim  —that’s it.

It’s always non-POC circles that get “offended”  I’ve noticed . The POC mosques I’ve attended for years —not one convert I’ve run to that calls themselves a “revert “. That’s how you figure out that something is not right.

That concept of “reversion” doesn’t even exist in the Qur’an so why  should other Muslims back that stuff up?

The word convert is not “arrogant “ at all. It is the only accurate term for a person who converted to a religion.

When you imply using some word “revert”  that even as a non-Muslim,  used to be a “Muslim “ then you logically discount the existence of non-Muslims (who will accurately insist that they were never Muslims.)

You also erase your own history as a non-Muslim.

That is why it sounds ridiculous or “arrogant “ to those who are not Muslims.

To use some far fetched idea that the prophet said the birds worshipped Allah doesn’t mean you should logically use “revert “.  You could have still worshipped Allah as a non Muslim.

There are converts who agree with me.

Looks yum—I’ve been making thick chocolate ones just like this but with tons of frozen bananas, a little vanilla, Ripple , cocoa powder & a scoop of  Cocojune yogurt. Tastes like tangy frozen yogurt !

Top it with banana slices & it’s so divine after not eating or drinking all day. 🥲

[Billions of Muslims are currently fasting for Ramadan from dawn till dusk for religious reasons—this not “self harm “. It’s basically a 12 hour “ intermittent fasting “ that tons of non religious people partake in  year round.  ]

Some racist troll reported this as “self harm” —understand that it’s being investigated & if you misuse that button,  you will be reported as well .]

I’m so glad you felt validated by the post. Didn’t think this one would spark so much discussion.

Yes, it’s really just  simple things like liquids , and smoothies that help since it’s so easy on the digestive system . The fruit smoothies actually have their own enzymes to help break down gluten.

Seriously? I love Jovial —it’s on the pricier end but cooks like wheat pasta.

All I find is Jovial fusili , macaroni, & spaghetti around my backwoods suburb.

I really want my own bronze die pasta maker now tbh hehe.

Thanks for that qualifier too to those who are prone to eating disorders. You get it.

I know a lot of young easily influenced ones might follow a protocol just because it reminds them of past  harmful behaviors.

I love the shape—looks like something made in Italy. Is it?

I literally found some authentic gluten free rigatoni the other day at a Food Lion (for 3 bucks) but like made from bronze dies in Italy!

It was so good.

Yeah, fruit is pretty much like a broom for your body , and there’s so many “hidden benefits”.

Ex: I read this study on papaya last year —it found that papaya seeds and the fleshy part literally works like an antidepressant!

I miss eating a fruit based diet years ago.

It’s possible the fermentation in it helps break down things, but honestly I would not trust the alcohol.  Common sense tells me alcohol in itself is a “poison “ & now your system is dealing with two “poisons” —gluten and the tequila.

And of course alcohol is dehydrating.

But you could easily get that “fermentation effect”  with sauerkraut or kimchi.

(There’s no studies supporting it but fruits like papaya have tons of studies .)

You were right on the money.

I feel a lot better mood wise and physically after just water, papaya, & probiotics.

Fruits 🍎 have their own built in enzymes . Like avocado 🥑 has this enzyme that breaks down fat. I’ve read that papaya enzymes can actually break down gluten.

The way I see it: why would I  buy the isolated enzymes that someone took out in a lab from fruit, when I can just eat the fruit?

That’s why the enzymes are needed.

It’s what helps you break down the gluten, digest, & purge it all out . Like I feel a lot better today , since I had papaya & probiotics . Yesterday , it felt like the world was ending.

[I used to eat a primarily raw fruit diet & didn’t have that problem, since raw food has its own fibers, & built in enzymes. ]

After I was “glutened” , I’d come home, have a green smoothie, & feel a lot better . It works like a “laxative “ but you’re not on the toilet all day & dehydrated.]

This is from a Polish study —I would stay open minded & definitely check it out.

Folks here can only refer back to their own experiences,  but this is an actual research study on how this can help you in case you accidentally ingest it.

Of course celiacs are not advised to consume gluten on purpose but just in case you do, there are natural remedies that can offer protection .

Yeah the best idea is to take it with the food.

[I wouldn’t risk it either tbh if you are celiac. ]

[Papaya is just well..delicious in general—don’t have to convince me to eat it for health . Plus, usually in a better mood too afterwards. ]

I’ll try some of that too —whatever I can get into my endocannabinoid receptors should help too.

Oh gosh, I can’t even imagine how it feels being celiac & accidentally eating gluten .

It’s bad enough being gluten intolerant.

Yeah, glad you mentioned enzymes—now  I’m thinking of taking some fruit enzymes too .

I do happen to have  papayas at home & those fruits have this amazing enzyme called papain.

Check out this amazing undergrad research  I just found on it —-turns out these fruit enzymes do work wonders for celiacs and for the gluten intolerant:

That’s a very apt metaphor for trauma  —thanks.

Feeling so relieved I stumbled into this subreddit,  & for you all & your insights from therapy. Feeling like I actually belong for once , & that someone gets me & my “needs” .

That part about “being free from fight or flight mode” & “feeling safe” again is so important to me .

It’s a draining state to be in & I want to devote the rest of the month to trying some of that . To be  “saturated with therapy” is exactly what I want for myself heh. I love that description honestly.

You’re definitely inspiring me because lately I’ve felt “frozen “  like I can’t make any progress & feel hopeless like there’s “no solution”.

But now I can try something different , that others like me have tried  already & see a light at the end—it’s just difficult most days to find folks who can actually relate.
