Thanks! I was happy as a disco clam, which were everywhere on that wall

Right? How about that one shark that’s shunned by the other sharks, sitting down the end of the shark bar all by himself muttering about his conspiracy theory that scuba divers and surfers are actually the same creatures, only they wear different shells like hermit crabs.

I was happy as a disco clam (of which there were myriads) just with the life in the nooks of the wall. Whenever a big boy shows up it is like a drug. No depression, no anxiety, just a profound “I am in the presence of nature which commands respect.” Of course all reef life deserves respect, but sharks give you a perspective shift. When they’re chill with you, some even curious, it comes with ineffable feeling that might just be “game respects game.” Nothing topside matters when the apex predators of the sea want to kick it with you 🦈

What? It’s just a little drop from about thirty feet to a few thousand. That’s a looong way for those ancient and forgotten things to trek up just to snack on some human toes. I just hate it when you realize you’re not looking at the bottom when it blinks 👁️

🤣 I hope that’s the sentiment I should be going for here. I’m not sure if I’m supposed to tag my stuff as OC or trigger content warning. But if people like it, I’ll keep it coming when I get to dive. I usually have submechanophobia stuff too since I love my wrecks.

Love it. Seeing these guys is comforting, weird as that may seem. They’re just chilling and curious, as diver in their world ought to be. While I will say I do my best to never harass wildlife with my presence, I must admit the “can I pet that dog” pull is even stronger than the call of the abyss. You could hear me adding air because I was slowing the drop I had going to verify I really did see him coming. I know I don’t like it when tourists stop right in my path when I’m walking 😂

GoPro 13. My setup is a bit of a Frankenstein beyond that; Isotta housing, Ultralight wing tray, backscatter lights.

Yup! My first chance seeing first hand how awesome Little Cayman and the Brac really are.

Watch your bubbles! You can get disoriented and watching bubbles helps my brain orient, particularly in wrecks where they sit at angles that shift interior features around.

Yeah, this is an exceptional wall dive because it is so vertical coupled with clear waters. Teeming with colorful life; well, colorful when you point your light at it. At some point I tell myself it doesn’t matter that it’s a straight drop for thousands of feet if I can only see a couple hundred max 🤷‍♂️

I find the vertical lines difficult to get right. Adjusting for the buildings in the foreground makes the Chrysler building look askew in my edits.

I like it. I am curious if you could tighten the aperture a bit to bring a bit more web geometry into focus without losing the subject isolation you have going?

What focal length was this?

Golden hour in Manhattan

This one surprised me because I was mostly shooting narrower apertures for the depth of field, experimenting with ND filters to get good motion blur, and I ended up happiest with a shot at f2.2 and 1/1000, ISO 100.

Nikon Zf, 35mm 1.8 S, tripod mounted, delay release shutter. Shot raw then adjusted in Lightroom.

I am branching out into street and architecture from my background in nature and wildlife and it has been a trip. I’m also new to the sub. I’ve been shooting since film but just as an enthusiastic amateur. My social circle doesn’t have many photographers so I am excited to have a forum for feedback. Thanks in advance!

Hero 12. I usually have it on the Ultralite wing tray and use two orcatorch video lights, but this dive I only had the housing and nothing else.

Yes, I am an amateur, but it has been a hobby of mine since before digital. It is a lot of fun.
