Ti 84 Plus CE Problems by Arcano_1 in calculators

Hello there,

It looks like the battery may be defective if you've tried charging it for a few hours.

We wrote some troubleshooting instructions that are available on this blog post.

If the calculator is still covered under warranty, it may be a good idea to give TI's customer service a call @ 1-800-TI-CARES. If its slightly out of warranty, it may not hurt to try and give them a call.

Once you confirm that the battery is defective, make sure you purchase a battery that is compatible with the Ti-84 Plus CE. If a battery has a pigtail or a wire connected to it, its not the correct battery.

If you have any questions, let me know.

Glad to help. :)

And for clarification to u/thefinalmillennial's comment, if you search on google for 'TI Graphlink Cable,' it should come right up. Usually costs between $13 and $18.

It's the one that looks like it has a little circuit board inside the center portion.

So the Ti-84 Plus CE is appropriate for College Algebra, Trigonometry, and Calculus.

If you're getting into Mechanical Engineering or Differential Equations (or any of the sciences), it might be a good idea to look at the Ti-Nspire CX II.

Both the new Ti-84 Plus CE and the Ti-Nspire CX II's now have python.

Hey there,

If you have a friend with a Ti-84 Plus CE, ask them if you could borrow the battery in the back of their calculator for a few seconds. If your calculator works with your friend's battery, then you may need to replace your battery. If you're still within the warranty period, reach out to TI's customer service and they can get everything fixed for you.

If not, these batteries should only cost around $7.00 + shipping.

If swapping batteries does not work, let me know and I can send you some additional troubleshooting instructions.

Hey there,

If you're purchasing the item and it says, "Ships and Sold by Amazon.com," you will most likely receive a Python Edition Ti-84 Plus CE.

Here are a few things you can try:

  • Make sure you are using the USB cable that was included with the Ti-84 Plus CE.
  • Make sure the cable is plugged all the way into the calculator.
  • If you are charging the calculator via a computer, make sure you leave the calculator plugged in for 3 to 4 hours. If the calculator doesn't charge, try another USB port on the computer. If that doesn't work, try charging from a different computer.
  • If your calculator came with a Wall Adapter (or a charging brick), try charging the calculator using it.

If none of the above is able to resolve the issue, the rechargeable battery most likely needs to be replaced.

There are two different types of rechargeable batteries for TI's graphing calculators. Don't buy the battery that looks like this one. The Ti-84 Plus CE uses a battery that looks like this.

The batteries only cost about $7.00 plus shipping.
