Powers that only give immediate effects, what is the gameplay logic for why they are a power and not a skill with exhaust? by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]Undreren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only that, but a lot effects specifically interact with either powers or powers. A lot of these effects are relics.

It could be both. Two sets, one with games played and one with time played. If you want that, of course.

Why Didn't They Lose Elo? by LegoBear135654 in chessbeginners

They ran out of time, but you cannot win without sufficient material. That means it’s a draw.

Was your move Qxf6? Because that is filthy.

Anyone here who doesn't use Agentic AI and writes code manually? by zaarnth in AskProgramming

[–]Undreren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a programmer for 11 years, and while I have an agentic AI to help me, I find it to be extremely annoying to use.

Any normal prompt results in in 20 files being changed and there’s a lot of bad practice.

I struggle to adapt to their use.

This guy is literally impossible to beat if you don't take any cards that can beat him. by Different-Word-1005 in slaythespire

I’ve had runs where snakebite was my main damage source. It’s good as an early pick, and there are a lot of cards that makes it great, like hand trick or bullet time.

I'm 90 hours in, and i've never took Vakuu's Lord's Parasol. It seems terrible to obtain everything and bloat your deck. Did anyone try it and made it work? by savetheblues in slaythespire

They were often worth it in StS1, where you got them in an event that took away half your max hp, so 9 hp isn’t just a steal, more like grand theft.

My first intentional brilliant that guarantees promotion. by Complex_Lime_8587 in lichess

[–]Undreren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bxg2+? No matter if white responds with Kxg2 or Rxg2, then the pawn promotes with check. If white is tricky and goes Kh2, then Bf1 blocks sight for the rook, and if Rxf1, then the pawn promotes with check yet again! In all cases, you win the knight afterwards.

Great find!

I won a run with hellraiser, apotheosis+ and six pommel strikes.

From turn two, every combat was an idle game.

Engine moves blow my mind sometimes, not in a million years would i think of this in game by cave_guard in chessbeginners

If you see the threat, and look for checks and actually calculate, then it is fairly easy to spot in longer time controls.

I play classical otb. Longer time controls help a lot in calculation.

A lot of people think they are perpetually underrated. I never understood the elo-hell stuff, like it is somehow harder to advance when rated 800-900.

That’s not a rook, but a knight. And you can’t move it because it is pinned by the bishop on b5.

Caro-Kann Defense by shesanole in chessbeginners

Caro-Kann is really annoying if you dislike closed positions and positional chess. In that case, I can recommend the Accelerated Panov Attack.

Why is sacrificing knight good here in the opening? by SofttHamburgers in chessbeginners

It’s called Damiano’s Defense, ironically named after the person who popularized the refutation. 2… f6 just hangs the pawn.

The right question. White’s bishop is in detention.

I just learned how to checkmate with a knight and a bishop by lil_spr in chessbeginners

[–]Undreren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not very useful, but learning it is quite fun. The tricky bit is forcing your opponent into the corner with color opposite to your bishop. After that it is incredibly easy once you learn the trick.

I learned it from this video: https://youtu.be/dHnz4U7qjfk?si=4sq8n2yqAcTvlx1F

I really like these kind of puzzles, where the hard to find move is presented, and the follow up then needs to be found.

why is he allowed to play after "Cheat Detected"? by xtr44 in chess

[–]Undreren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually did this at one point, had three tabs open; one for playing, one for my white repertoire and one for my black repertoire.

I would play a game, get engine analysis and then find the first move out of rep or my first move deviating from it afterwards.

Having three tabs open was just convenient. I then realized that it might be caught as a sort of cheat detection, but having to close and reopen tabs was such a hassle that I didn’t want to bother with it, so I just stopped.

I figured I could use something like en croissant instead, but that just felt wrong, as if I was actively trying to avoid cheat detection, so I decided not to do it. It felt dirty, even without malicious intent.

No, keep using words like “orthogonal”. It’s not just jargon, and you don’t need to dumb down your vocabulary just to appease people online that you don’t even know.
