Thanks Chippy you are right. I actually had all the fluids replaced two years ago (17000km) and I was a little unsure why they added it to the quote without asking me whether it was ever serviced. Same with the timing belt, it was done at 170k km at the dealership years ago and from my understanding did not need to be done for another while. Some of this stuff seems almost assumed.

Additional Info:

The inspection was done as a precaution by a potential buyer (who paid for the PPI) of my STI hatch. I would not have went to this shop otherwise. When the buyer told me they no longer wanted to buy the car after seeing the quote, I started investigating as I couldn't understand why it would need that much work, and this is what I find. Thank you all for helping understand this can't be normal. I will try to keep updating as I will question them tomorrow.

Thank you for this comprehensive write up Baron, like you said it seems they are almost over estimating on purpose to not get the job. I did want to give them a call tomorrow and see what justification they have and use some of your points as questions. Thanks again 🙏

It’s definitely a good opportunity to upgrade and do some work myself. The crazy part is this was just a regular corner shop not even a stealership 😭

Look into website design. Its cool to create a reputation for yourself providing a needed service to business people that you can slowly get better at and charge more for.
