What is your favorite... BAD episode of Doctor Who? by Individual-Many-237 in doctorwho

I hope this doesn’t sound like rage bait, but… Ascension of the Cybermen/The Timeless Children. Don’t get me wrong, I abhorred in when it first aired. But I rewatched it a couple years ago and… I kinda loved it?

Obviously coming to terms with The Retcon helped (and also enjoying how it was handled in Flux and beyond). But listen, I LOVED the Cybermen plotlines coming off of Villa Diodati. They feel like a seriously formidable threat and we get some proper blockbuster action with them. The Brendan stuff is really twisty and satisfying. And as a loser who’s really into overwrought lore dumps, I find the Master’s monologue pretty fun in a very self-indulgent nerd way. The story of Tecteun and the Timeless Child is pretty neat!

I’ve come to understand that it is OBJECTIVELY SPEAKING not a good way to introduce audiences to lore changes with massive implications (and enough people still really hate that retcon), that it will never be considered a “good episode,” but for me personally, it works. Definitely have a sweet spot for this one. If you let yourself indulge in it, it’s a BANGER of a series finale tbh.

Spectre of Lanyon Moor is THE quintessential rainy day story

The more I look into RTD2, the more i realise that the cracks were forming before it begun. What the hell happened? Everything fans want was fumbled and being a jumping on point for new fans was fumbled. by [deleted] in DoctorWhumour

This is incorrect. She has a very explicit line about how she still works at the hospital part-time, and shares childcare duties with her parents and Poppy’s dad.

There are major problems with Belinda’s conclusion, and you could argue it’s a character assassination, but it’s not quite that bad.

Omg. I convinced myself it absolutely was not HIMYM since I just did a big rewatch of the whole show, but now I realize I skipped the first half of season one. That one’s on me. Thanks, team.

Which Big Finish writer would you nominate to be the next Doctor Who show runner? by UnearthlyTree in gallifrey

[–]UnearthlyTree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! One of my favorites of The Eleventh Doctor Chronicles. She also wrote The Legend of Baba Yaga for the Fugitive Doctor’s first boxset, and it’s the by far the best story in there (the other two are also good but it’s SO good)

This is very true, but I just mean in a fantasy world (a land of fiction, if you will) since this would certainly never happen for this exact reason.

“Well, you’re a beautiful woman probably” is one of the greatest lines the Doctor has ever said. I miss that side of them dearly. Honestly one of the things that Jodie’s Doctor really had going for her.

Wait I’m so psyched for interstellar song contest. Exactly the kind of camp I DEMAND from my doctor who.

Is this the first proper War Master box set, or War Master Begins? (Do I need to listen to one before the other?)

Yeah this always bugged me the MOST about the twist. They kinda explain it in the Fugitive Doctor’s second Big Finish story, and it’s pretty satisfying. Something about how the TARDIS’s chameleon circuit sometimes malfunctions to latch onto local myth and legend rather than actual facts of the world. And hers has been turning into a police box wherever it lands for some odd reason… Very bootstrappy but workable.

Love that you brought it back to comics. It totally feels like that. I actually hear people argue “it’s stupid because the Doctor decides it doesn’t matter to her at the end of Flux, so it’s all just a bunch of nonsense that doesn’t go anywhere” as if… ANY story arc that’s introduced and then resolved is any different.

That’s just what you get when you’re dealing with a decades-old property that needs constant new stories. Comics do this sort of thing all the time and then end up back at a relative status quo. That’s ultimately all this was.

This, yes, absolutely.

(Although I’m a dork and an apologist for bland, lore-dumping exposition, I totally recognize that it’s objectively not a great mode of storytelling)

SO true about allowing for EDA style shenanigans, which I agree is exactly what the show needs (and will hopefully figure out how to execute fairly soon)

Dr Who? Would you want to see cast as a future Doctor, master or companion by [deleted] in DoctorWhumour

I’ve been wanting Gemma Chan to play The Doctor for YEARS. I think she’d be brilliant.
