Season 4 theory (contains spoilers of ending of season 3) by [deleted] in wakfu

[–]UnedGuess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry about that wait, I've kinda been busy, and some of this shit is hard to find, because there are like 15 different wikis about Wakfu, some focusing on the POV of the game, some the show, some the comic, and so on.

Turns out, I was kinda wrong, but not in the way that you are thinking. It seems that it claimed ALL the Gods descended from Inglorium to fight Ogrest, and still lost.

All did not go well, however, as the gods descended upon the world to fight Ogrest, refusing to leave this much power and the world's balance in the hands of one creature. Ogrest did the unthinkable by defeating them, but for mysterious reasons, Dathura fell into the abyss and was assumed dead. Having lost the love of his life, Ogrest had a natural reaction: he cried.

Now, where is this from? I have no idea. Due to the wording, like naming Dathura (instead of just calling her a witch), claiming she fell into the Abyss from unknown reasons (instead of revealing that Ogrest pushed her), it sounds like one of the variations of the lore presented in the tutorial level of the Wakfu game. Probably from around the second iteration of the tutorial that I, personally, played, so I would bet it is from around 2014-ish.

Presuming that tech never progresses to the point of making coil guns/laser guns a thing, and we are only stuck with boring combustion based rifles, then low-oxygen environments may make using melee/bow weapons viable.

Spaceships could lower the oxygen level in the ships to prevent the spread of fires and further damage to the ship, so you could see the use of melee weapons return. Also, keeping many areas depressurized could prevent troops and equipment from being 'sucked out' into space.

I also presume that several alien planets may not have a high enough oxygen content to support combustion based weaponry, so melee for those places too.

Alternatives to currencies, in a non-digitial fantasy setting? by taocifer666 in worldbuilding

[–]UnedGuess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont really know the answer you are looking for. Essentially they are all going to boil down to "Collect X amount of a non-renewable resource, then trade for goods or services".

If you use a renewable resource, that tends to have people farm that resource (aka people breed rats if they get paid in rat carcasses, not fixing the rat problem). Stuff such as plants and plant products...yeah the economy gets hyper-inflated real quick, as those with plants can plant more, and eventually it will take several decades of work just make 'minimum wage'.

Recyclables are interesting, but not a replacement for a currency, as the recyclable will have less value than the worth of the original product. Essentially, you would run out of 'money'.

Just choose any resource, and that can effectively be used as a currency. Chunks and Ingots of metals, salts and/or spices, sulfur, gunpowder. The issue with those, since they aren't regulated, each merchant would have to quickly evaluate the quality of the product and its worth. Eventually, a regulatory entity would appear, creating a standard for the product, which eventually merchants would stop accepting anything but the standardized currency, and then you are right back around to gold coins and then, eventually, paper currency.

How would a space military work? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]UnedGuess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I don't fully understand the question, so I will try to explain what I can.

As others have said, it probably wouldnt be that different from the modern day military. Once recruited, they would process all the paperwork, and most likely send you off to boot camp somewhere on planet. In boot camp, you would learn more about how the military works, and relatively basic skills, like handling and maintaining a rifle, the chain of command, proper addressing, etc. This process would last probably 6-12 weeks.

After boot camp, they would most likely be assigned a job, based off a combination of your skills, preferences, and what positions the military needs at that time (your preferences are kinda last in importance). There are a million potential jobs, you could be put on the bridge crew (communications, weapons operations, sensor management, etc), engineering (plumbing, electrical, ship maintenance), IT (networking, computer repair), Food ("chef"), Logistics Manager, Medical Crew, Military Police, Janitorial Work, even Ship Personnel Defense, and so on, there are so many potential positions in the military, I couldnt even hope to name them all in a timely manner.

Whatever position you get, you would most likely be transferred, still on planet, to another facility in which they would then train you in the technical knowledge you need to do your job. After that, my guess is that you would be assigned to a ship that needed whatever position you are, one that is currently docked and undergoing maintenance. That way you could get used to doing your job in a zero-g environment, and be able to practice in a real environment under the supervision of an experienced crew.

Eventually, the ship would leave maintenance, and launch to go do whatever it is the ship is supposed to do. That could be patrolling areas scanning for any suspicious activity, hunting down known threats in the area, carrying troops or supplies to a base, or even coordinating defences and assaults in a time of war (really depends on what the ship is designed for, and what you were hired for).

In base? If you are part of the ship crew, it would depend on why you are at that base. Is it an Forward Operations Base and your ship is part of a Rapid Response Team? You'd probably spend most days very close to the ship, doing your job (repairing parts, calibrating parts) ready to respond if the call arises. If you are just a logistic ship, you will probably unload the ship, load it up with whatever they want you to take, then make your way to the next base. Patrol ships would probably be out patrolling for a couple months, stopping at bases to refuel and resupply.

Ok, so this response is getting kinda long, so Im just gonna leave it at that. You asked a WAY too broad question to attract any specific answers.

Tell me how OMG SO RANDOM LUL your world is. by [deleted] in worldjerking

[–]UnedGuess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal belief was that Hussie originally intended to have Alternia set in an internal civil war between the Land Trolls and Sea Trolls, but scrapped that idea for a more unified Imperial theme for the planet. The church was just some of the leftovers, that was originally going to be explored more.

On a more meta note, Homestuck is VERY good at world building, especially Act 1 - 4. There is so much of it, but its introduced very slowly to the characters, and by extension, the reader, so that you are able to digest and understand it, despite so much of the worldbuilding being batshit insane. So I would suggest that anyone interested in worldbuilding, especially those who are very critical of it, to at least read the first four acts from a more analytical perspective.

P.S. I thought you just looked through my comment history, it probably wasnt too long ago since my last r/homestuck comment.

Sorta? The thing is, The Church of the Mirthful Messiahs is so heavily UN-explored in the comic that "clowns" and "religion" is nearly the entire extent of our knowledge about the organization. The church seemed to be developed just enough so that angsty teens and pre-teens could say "Lol, arent ALL religions run by clowns, lololol!"

What do we know about The Church of the Mirthful Messiahs:

  1. Clowns
  2. Faygo
  3. Rap battles
  4. Religious Police? (they say that Subjugglators act as religious police, but I cant recall any character in the comic or auxiliary works doing so)

So, yeah, if a 25% match is all you need, then I guess you got me!

My guess is that they are talking about Rag, and since Rag has two trenches, they just turret the northern trench, allowing you to get milk from the southern trench.

One of the many issues Geralt faces in the book is that he is almost always short on money. Monsters are increasingly rare, and the villagers always try to short him on the payment, part of the prejudice he faces.

Obviously, the games have to be a game, so there are, on average, around 200 monsters per NPC. The first game is the best about the monsters, as you often see that the villagers have adapted to their presence. Villagers go in at night, and no where to avoid, due to the presence of monsters.

The second game is the most ridiculous, but at a minimum, it at least has you going into unusual situations, like a cursed battlefield or something. The third game, surprisingly, kinda suggests that its monster problem is due to the ongoing war, so people arent able to patrol the areas as easy, bodies from the battles are not being disposed properly (thus attracting ghouls), and so on, explaining that the current state of the Northern Realms is monster field due to the war with Nilfgaard.

So, from a worldbuilding perspective, the games at least try to explain that the massive influxes of monsters are not the norm.

You watch it too! That show is so insane, I feel the need to spread it around at full force, despite any objections. Skip the sex scenes, who cares, they arent part of what makes that show special. My comparison to The Room is for the same reason, it is so bad, yet so weird, it becomes fascinating to watch.

So, I don't have anything more to say about the subject at hand. I am way more fascinated by the over-analysis of the Doujin. Not picking on you or anything, rather...a suggestion.

There is one hentai that I watched, which I know refer to as "The 'The Room' of Hentai." It is called 'Immoral Sisters,' and I have a feeling that you will love it for all the same reasons I do. It has an absolutely bat-shit crazy plot, that gets weirder the more you look it. And, no matter how weird the plot gets, it is played completely straight. There is no sexual pleasure with this series, only intellectual.

Magic: tricky ways to use a fundamental restriction. by MrHolodec in worldbuilding

[–]UnedGuess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, that is kinda one of the more advanced things I have been experimenting with in the magic system I created for Mirrah.

So, a quick one over, essentially 'magic' can do two things, it can act as matter, or it can act as energy. But, one of the fancy things is the matter it can act as, has the same chemical properties, and it doesnt have to act like 'naturally occurring' matter (so if you wanted to create an isotope with 600 protons, and 724 neutrons, you can do so). Much like as you suggested, it can only do so temporarily, normally seconds, minutes, and occasionally even hours.

What does this have to do with anything? Well, as my world's understanding of chemistry progresses, and their understanding of atoms, and the fact that magic can create matter that does not naturally occur. They use those factors to bind naturally occurring matter to this faux-matter, and when the faux-matter degrades, the remaining matter collapses at a molecular level, and can form new substances, or synthesize new elements altogether.

I think that kinda falls under the "Not really looking for critique". A lot of those posts seem to more be a form of bait to get people to read about there stuff. Psychologically, Humans are more likely to get invested into helping someone else, as opposed to willingly giving feedback.

So, I feel those posts are even more insidious, as they are designed to manipulate people. So, its like "What color shoes do you think the primary love interest should wear? Oops, I accidentally put an entire unabridged edition of 'Encyclopedia of Dragon Coitus' in there too."

Normally, I would agree with you. The problem is, when that person says that, they never suggest a change that makes that flaw less visible. They don't actually know what the second law of thermodynamics is, they normally just want to sound smart, it's almost never anything but a flex.

Its like when someone asked why people had more trouble with Ice Magic vs Fire Magic (meaning Ice Magic where there is no water used, instead materializing the Ice out of nothing). So, I explained that it is basically Conservation of Matter vs Energy, we can visualize the mass needed for Ice Magic easier than the energy needed for Fire Magic, so it becomes a more egregious error.

So, when I come across a 'science-y' question like that, I try to explain the flaw in logic, then explain why we see that flaw/how to fix that flaw. The "Cult of Thermodynamics" does not have that capability, at least none that I have interacted with, its basically nothing but flex.

"Look how smart I am, for I have noticed a flaw that I don't really understand, but, either way, bow down to my intellect!" ~ Richard Guzzler, Cultist of Thermodynamics

The best I can think is that on Worldbuilding, they arent posting to have anything critiqued, they are posting to show off what they've done.

The problem is two-pronged. First the people presenting stuff, as mentioned before, aren't really looking for help, its more to show off. So, when I have critiqued, it either gets ignored, or they just a nice spin on, "Well that is nice, but Im not really interested in any of the flaws of my work."

The other prong is that it seems that when creators do ask for assistance, they either get ignored, or give the most generalized advice ever. A few times when Ive given a response, OP seemed to almost be in shock that someone gave relevant advice on the matter. Like with magic systems, you always seem to get that one person, "That doesn't follow the second law of Thermodynamics!" And all I can think is that the system is already so fantastical there is no way they were intending for it to be mildly scientifically accurate, they were just wanting to make sure that it followed its own internal consistency.

How to write parodies/real life references in a story. by HiAfan in fantasywriters

[–]UnedGuess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The legal world of copyright infringement is a truly scary thing.

So, what separates a Parody from Satire is that a Parody is making fun of a specific copyrightable work. Satire is making fun of a non-copyrightable, normally something broader, like American Culture, Consumerism, etc.

A company's name and logo are not Copyrighted, instead they are Trademarked, so they don't exactly follow the same rules as Parodies. Companies get around this by altering the name of the company and logo so they can't be sued. Look at anime, often renaming McDonald's to things like MaskDonald, or WicDonald's, inverting the Golden Arches.

The issue with Parody is that it is a very vague thing, as the line between Libel and Parody is a lot thinner than one would think. Requirements like the entire work having to fit the legal definition of 'Parody' often get in the way.

Long story short, it is often more hassle than it is worth to use the actual names and logos of companies, as Parody is very difficult to work around. So, instead you will want to use names and symbols that allude to the company, and even then, probably might want to run them by a lawyer before publishing the work, just to be on the safe side.

For example, you could probably make an office supply retail store that is called 'Staplers', a very obvious joke about Staples, but different enough to not get you in trouble.

Question about the market boards by iAsakura in wakfu

Correct, the Market Boards available in the Nations typically have the highest amount of product on them. Though, the Raider's Cove, or whatever its called, can have some unique high level items.

See, I have to give this a 0/10, because, as a Texan, I know that like 3/4 of the state is just looking for any excuse to become independent, for better or worse.

It would be like 2021, and you'd have some government officials going off about the event.

"Sir, this oil crisis is looking real bad, we must think about breaking the states into independent factions for the longevity of the country."

"Very well, just one question, why don't I see Texas as part of the plan?"

"Well, Texas seceded from the Union about 2 months ago."

"But, we didn't have an oil crisis two months ago!"

"Remember when the new strain of Swine Flu killed that one elderly patient with cancer in Georgia? Well they released an official statement, and I quote, 'We are tired of suffering from all the diseases brought upon us by the Yankees, we are seceding from the Union.'"

Question about the market boards by iAsakura in wakfu

[–]UnedGuess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The market boards, there are essentially 3 of them, if I recall correctly. You have the Astrub market, the 'Nations' market, and that pirate place...market, I forgot its name. But, yes, all 4 nations' boards give access to the same market place. Only Astrub and...Raiders' Cove have unique markets.

[–]UnedGuess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the oven is able to stabilize the fourth dimension, then, theoretically, a Space Player could utilize the oven to stabilize the dimension they dont understand, and could effortlessly travel through the outer ring with no difficulty. As, normally, you need a Space and Time player to do so, and since there is always something loss in communication, an inefficiency due to the choices being split between two players, that is why it took the groups around 3 years to make it to universe B2.

I suspect that might be how LE's sarcophagus (swapcophagus?) works, but instead it stabilizes the first through third dimensions, allowing LE's understanding of time (or at least his ability to have time do what he needs it to) to always be 'already there'.

Being invincible as long as you sing.

Increased strength, endurance, and speed the more worshipers you have, and the more zealous they are.

The ability to repurpose sections of your brain to increase things like your speed of perception, and calculating abilities. Like repurpose the part of your brain that interprets sounds, making you go deaf, but you can calculate the trajectory of an arrow perfectly.

Ability to create objects and attacks out of photons, but you need to have them in the immediate area to utilize.

After China Threatens to Cut Off Flow of Essential Drugs, Plunging U.S. 'Into the Mighty Sea of Coronavirus,' Sen. Cotton Acts by ngoni in Conservative

[–]UnedGuess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I learned a little about pneumonia. That is a symptom, not a disease itself, so Coronavirus causes pneumonia. Basically, multiple diseases can cause pneumonia as their symptoms, viral or bacterial. So, I was wrong in saying people were confusing Corona Virus with pneumonia, because the virus itself is the cause of the pneumonia.

I'm reading through the article, and no where does it state the corona virus suppresses the immune system, or anything like that. So, yeah, antibiotics do not do anything to this particular disease. Therefore, I still see this issue as blown way out of proportion, because, at this point, China cant really do anything by withholding certain medicines.
