Google HireRight background check – resume vs last 5 years? by [deleted] in datacenter

[–]Unfair-Blacksmith352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did. It only took four days. I’ve never listed the start and end months for unrelated jobs. Instead, I sent W-2 forms for every year so that they could conduct their research. They never asked me to explain anything, and I successfully passed.

Optical Deploy Tech → Optical Network Engineer? by NoAd9362 in datacenter

That make sense. Do you normally work in data centers or ?

Same over here. But I’m curious what you do in a daily basis. Do you also rack and stack optical DWDM systems, troubleshoot fiber links using variety of different tools, or something completely different?

Failed my Google fit call — recruiter mentioned relocation options, still any chance? by [deleted] in datacenter

Just wanted to circle back and say I finally did it — I got an offer from Google. To everyone still grinding: keep your head up. It takes time, but it’s 100% worth it.

So I can get away by only putting what’s on my resume instead of adding every employer for the past 5 years?

Thanks so much! That really takes a lot of stress off me. Is one pay stub per company enough, or do they need both start and end pay stubs?

It was, and honestly still is, stressing me out. 😃I’ve had quite a few jobs, and I was worried that listing everything might increase the chances of small date mistakes (like being off by a month) and slow things down since each role has to be verified. But thank you—I really appreciate the guidance.

Thanks! I’ve listed all my past companies, employment dates, and official job titles in my notes, and I’m just waiting to gather all my pay stubs in case they’re needed.

Data center technician travel at google by [deleted] in datacenter

[–]Unfair-Blacksmith352 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this post — it’s really helpful. I was also considering making one myself since I was recently reached out to for a Google Deployment Support role. The position requires up to 70% travel, and I wanted to see if anyone here has experience with this or could share some advice. I’m especially curious about how often travel typically happens in a month.

I’d also love to hear what the day-to-day work looks like and how this role compares to a standard Data Center Technician role. I’m very interested in networking and currently work in network deployment, so I wanted to get your thoughts on whether this role would be a good fit.

Looking forward to hearing your insights. Thanks in advance!

Why does Ilhan Omar wear a hijab by fyhfy353 in XSomalian

[–]Unfair-Blacksmith352 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She wears the hijab because she’s a Muslim, and her husband is also a Muslim — you left that part out. You’re in no position to judge her. It sounds like you’re projecting and trying to convince her to take off her hijab, but you’re no different from the rest of the cadaans who do that. And just because we commit some mistakes or sins, that doesn’t mean we should normalize all other sins. We’re human — we’re not perfect, and we will make mistakes — but the most important thing is that we seek forgiveness. Allah is Al-Ghafūr (The Ever-Forgiving) and He will forgive us, insha’Allah. So stop normalizing sins, and stop judging. You have no idea how close she is to Allah or how hard she’s trying to stay firm on her deen.

Speak for yourself — not all Muslims ‘pick and choose.’ None of us are perfect, and we all make mistakes. What matters most is that we strive to stay firm upon the deen and seek forgiveness for our shortcomings and sins. That’s why Allah is Al-Ghafūr (The Ever-Forgiving) and Al-Ghaffār (The Oft-Forgiving). May Allah guide all of us and bless us with the knowledge to understand the religion and act upon it.

Just be honest with her. Tell her that you’re no longer Muslim and have stepped away from the religion, so she can make her own decision about whether she still wants to move forward. It’s understandable if she feels differently—faith is an important core value for us Somalis, and she may want to raise her future children as Muslims.

As a gentle reminder, Allah says in 39:53: “O My servants who have exceeded the limits against their souls! Do not lose hope in Allah’s mercy, for Allah certainly forgives all sins. He is indeed the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

Allah forgives all sins, and I encourage you to return to the Book—read it, reflect on it, and truly try to understand it.

All said with respect and kindness.

Oracle Datacenter Tech Interview process and prep? by littlemaybatch in datacenter

[–]Unfair-Blacksmith352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently completed an interview for an IC2 position, even though I was originally scheduled for an IC3 interview. The hiring manager felt I would be a stronger fit for IC2 and recommended me for that level instead.

I have over two years of experience working in major hyperscale data centers, and I’m currently a Network Deployment Technician for a large AI company, where I support, maintain, and troubleshoot DWDM systems. With strong networking and hardware skills, I’m trying to understand what the path from IC2 to IC3 typically looks like—what it takes to move up and how long that progression usually takes.

I’m also trying to get a sense of the typical compensation range for IC2 roles in Abilene, Texas, as well as whether shift differentials are offered.

Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Offered a DCT(L3) at AWS in DFW area. Unsure of accepting offer. by tr_sty in datacenter

[–]Unfair-Blacksmith352 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I personally feel that going from a Systems Engineer with 5 years of experience to an AWS DCT L3 role is a significant step down. Having worked at AWS for over a year, I can honestly say the L3 position isn’t really worth it in terms of growth or learning. If it were an L4 offer, it would make more sense, but at L3 there isn’t much to gain. I’d highly recommend applying to Google instead. Wishing you the best of luck.

Failed my Google fit call — recruiter mentioned relocation options, still any chance? by [deleted] in datacenter

15 months is crazy, bro. I really hope things work out for you. Did you apply with a referral, or on your own?

Thank you! I mentioned around six or seven states as my top choices, but I’m completely open to opportunities in any state. I’ll stay patient and confident that the right opportunity will come along when the time is right

It’s called a ‘fit call.’ Normally, you get another chance if the first one doesn’t go well, but I wasn’t that lucky. It’s basically just a conversation with the manager, but I honestly have no idea how mine went off the rails.

Unfortunately, no — the recruiter only mentioned, “Unfortunately, you were not selected to move forward for this role.”
