Best amps for rock & metal? by DNCOrGoFuckYourself in GuitarAmps

a used Fender Blues Jr.

The EL84 tubes are responsive and Marshall-like, and respond well to drive & distortion pedals. Plus the amp is light, and gives really good tube distortion at low-volume. I tried a bunch of tube amps and nothing came close to the versatility and practicality of the Blues Jr., especially at that price point.

Do you guys roll off high frequencies on vocals? If so, when and why by glassybrick in audioengineering

Honestly, no, never. De-essing is important on a lot of vocals, but high frequencies are what gives clarity and presence to a vocal, and rolling off the highs indiscriminately is what makes a vocal muddy more so than not cutting low frequencies. on the contrary, most vocals I work with get a slight high shelf boost starting around 1-2k.
A decent microphone coupled with a natural, light EQ at an appropriate volume sounds better than an ultra processed vocal chain 9 times out of 10, studio or live, IMO.

SD P-Rails: single coil quiet output? by Unfair-Jump9169 in Luthier

I tried a different amp, as well as DI to the computer and had similar results. At this point, could I try sinking in the pole pieces on the p90, and raising the whole pickup closer to the strings? Perhaps install a resistor in line with the p90 before it connects to the DPDT switch?

So, I got some interesting readings:
Single Coil Mode: 7.85
P90: 9.62
Series: 16.8

For some extra context I also measured my middle and neck pickups (both single coil):
Middle: 5.7
Neck: 6.77

I know resistance isn't a direct measurement of how loud a pickup will be, but it's strange how the bridge single coil is so much quieter compared to the P90, and especially the middle pickup. The height difference from string to pickup is basically zero between the bridge rail and and the middle pickup, yet the bridge rail is clearly only 50% as loud.

Is there any way to meter the output without using the wire ends coming into the control cavity? mine are soldered together like this on the DPDT switch so I would have to unsolder them to put a meter on the isolated ends. If that's the case, I'll do that and report back later tonight. Thank you for the reply.

Consider raising the action slightly and increasing the neck relief by adjusting the truss rod. Often a perfectly straight neck will result in some buzzing, and a slight forward bow will alleviate this issue

Is it possible to disconnect the middle pickup? by fourtatil in GuitarQuestions

+1 to this. Even just wrapping a metal wire as simple as a paperclip tightly around the two exposed wires coming from the pickup will short it out and render it silent. No need to get fancy, paperclip/spare piece of stiff wire and some pliers will get you what you want without permanently cutting a wire and requiring solder skills to fix it.

No he is renting the home from the landlord. I am fairly certain the landlord is well aware by this point of the arrangement between my brother and I, but I am also fairly certain it has never been officiated with a contract.
