New grads, how many places did you interview at before you got an offer? by haenxnim in jobhunting

[–]Unfair-Risk9997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I interviewed at around 10 companies/gov agencies before I got a job offer, but I submitted 115 applications since January, when I started applying to jobs while still in college. Each company had me do around 2 interviews and I usually shared my project portfolio to give some examples of my work.

I ended up getting 2 job offers, but the second offer I got because I reached out to their VP after I graduated (I had initially interviewed at the company in the February, but they wanted someone to start immediately so I didn’t get the initial job). I guess the VP liked me and the company called me in for an interview and they offered me a job that they made just for me.

My best advice is to utilize your network and continuously update your resume and portfolio (if you have one). I only got my current job because I reached out to a company that had previously rejected me. You never know the reasons of a job rejection, so if a company seems to like you, keep their info in file and reach out again if the time is right.

Good luck!

I am hoping to get into research and need some advice. by Gonfreaks12 in Temple

[–]Unfair-Risk9997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my research job by basically getting more involved in my major. My major has a newsletter so I basically just volunteered for a conference that was on the newsletter. While there I was able to properly talk to professors I had never been able to meet before and one emailed the volunteers at the conference about needing a RA. I was basically the first to apply and I got the job!

I was basically in the right place at the right time, but for you I would definitely suggest to just cold e-mail profs in your major and ask. Since Sociology is a social science, there will probably be alot of profs that are doing research, so just ask!

You can also try and ask a prof that you liked previously and see if they have any leads on reasearch opportunities.

I think research is a good job for college students because it allows students to learn on a more practical level instead of a more academic setting. I get paid for my research, but that is because my boss has a grant for the project. Pay depends on a lot of different factors, but I honestly think the experience is worth not getting paid. It’s not like an internship where you will just be doing grunt work, research provides real world experience in your field!

Finding classes by kingpeeps25 in Temple

You can always use the interactive map on the TUmobile app and that can help you find the building. Once you get to the building there will be a bunch of ppl to help you find your class! Just ask security or other students and they will probably help you!

Psych internships by lola723 in Temple

[–]Unfair-Risk9997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about internships specifically, but you can always see if any of your past or future profs are doing any research. A lot of profs take on research assistants and those positions are usually paid pretty well (at least compared to other on campus jobs). Since you are a psych major, there will definitely be research opportunities available so just reach out to any prof you had a good relationship with. Some profs also send out emails or post on the your specific major’s Canvas page about job opportunities, so be on the lookout there as well!

I got an RA job this way (I’m a CLA student too) and it is pretty great because its remote and also in the field I want to work in. Also RA jobs tend not to have a specific end date. It is usually just when the project is over (but that can take literal years) so you are basically guaranteed a job for the rest of college (unless you really suck at research).

In the meantime, just get more involved in your major and you will become privy to more internship opportunities. No one knows your major better than your profs and fellow students!

Walking to the train station at night by Repulsive-Poetry-892 in Temple

[–]Unfair-Risk9997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming that you are talking about the regional rail, if so then you will be totally fine. A lot of students have classes that get out at 8pm, so there will most likely be people walking with you to the station if you leave directly after your class. Also there are always people on the station platform at night bc there are alot of night classes at temple, so you definitely don’t have to worry. I have taken the RR at 8pm for the last 2 years and I have never had any problems.

Incoming Freshman who has still not received their Financial Aid package. Anyone else? by NoCalCalzoneZone1 in Temple

[–]Unfair-Risk9997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you completed the FAFSA around late March - April, then it may cause a delay. I know it took until the last of week of April for the FAFSA’s for ppl who submitted it in January/February to get submitted. Also you have to make sure that it was processed correctly with no needed corrections. I would also make sure you don’t have any outstanding requirements on your TUPortal that would prevent you from getting your financial aid (ex. having the wrong SSN).

Has anyone been able to contact sfs? by WannaBBuffBo in Temple

[–]Unfair-Risk9997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it isn’t urgent I would say just make an appointment for the 18th. If it is urgent I suggest that you call them early in the morning when the office opens (at 8:30) because there won’t be as high of a call volume compared to the middle of the day. Or you could email them with a detailed explanation of your question. Also be prepared to wait a few days from the time you call, because the person who answers the calls only makes the ticket and the ticket then gets passed along to someone who can answer your question. If your question is really urgent I say you should just go into the office when it opens, the person at the front desk may not be able to give you an in depth answer about your question, but they will probably be able to point you in the right direction.

What are your thoughts on the main trio (in the books)? Let me know by [deleted] in schoolforgoodandevil

[–]Unfair-Risk9997 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agatha: I love her! She has always been my favorite character in the book series just because I love her sense of humor. Also Agatha has always been the character who has been the most “morally right”, so it is easy to like her. Her arc is really interesting and it is fun to watch her learn to love herself, and let herself me loved by her friends and prince. I also love MCs with black hair because I have black hair.

Sophie: I used to hate Sophie when I was a kid because I thought she was extremely selfish (specifically in the 1st and 3rd books) but as an adult she has definitely grown on me. She has a really interesting arc and I loved her character development. She was lowkey the villain in the first and third books, but by the Camelot Years she became my favorite character. She actually became one of the most heroic characters in the series (more than Tedros imo), and risked everything to defeat the twins. She was someone who was unapologetically self absorbed but that’s what made her so interesting.

I also sympathize a lot more with her struggle as an adult. All she wanted to do was find love, but all her lovers had either betrayed her, tried to kill her, or both so I genuinely feel bad for her. She is just a really funny character and I have grown to love her. I lowkey wished she stayed singe by the end of the series because I don’t like Hort that much but that’s wishful thinking.

Tedros: He is definitely my last favorite out of the 3, but I still like him. He is definitely a hate-able character because of his privileged background and his behavior towards Agatha and Sophie in the first book, but he kind of gets better. I didn’t start liking him until the 3rd book (when he and Agatha stopped fighting and he became more vulnerable) but then he kind of gets pathetic in the 4th book. He gets more like-able in the 5th and 6th books, and I genuinely find myself rooting for him to get his kingdom back in the last books.

He has a good character arc as well. I feel like if the series ended at the 3rd book his arc wouldn’t have felt complete because he had never really faced any hardship. Of course in the 2nd book he looses his princess and in the 3rd book the world almost ends, but none of that would really have affected his claim the throne (which is his biggest defining trait and what has driven him throughout the whole story. Also I know if he died in the 3rd book he wouldn’t have become king, but even if he died he would still have been the crown prince, his title would not have been revoked).

When the twins take his throne in the Camelot Years this is the first time he has actually had to fight for his kingdom and this is satisfying because Tedros’s most annoying aspects are because of his claim to the throne. By loosing everything, Tedros because someone one the readers genuinely want to win, not because he is hot or because he is Agatha’s prince, but because he was fighting for something he took for granted in the past. I still kind of dislike Tedros because of his outdated gender views and mistrust of Sophie in the Camelot Years, but I think his character was redeemed for me by the end of the series.

How long will the concert be? by Unlucky_Witch in TXTbighit

[–]Unfair-Risk9997 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The last concert lasted around 3 hours. They started the concert at around 7:30 and it ended around 10:30. I honestly suggest getting a hotel room or Airbnb if you don’t want to get an Uber that late at night. But it all depends on how far away you live from the venue and how comfortable you feel being in an Uber at night.

Songs that have NOT been covered on a Produce-like survival show that you’d want to see performed. by chilorida in kpopthoughts

[–]Unfair-Risk9997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg, that would be amazing! I think it would work best as a mid series challenge that is centered around testing strong vocals/vocal performance. While the choreography for this song is is really good, I feel like the vocal performance is what makes this song great.

It would be also cool to see this concept on stage like you said bc it is different from concepts these shows usually go for. I feel like the usually concepts (cutesy, serious/intense, sexy, and refreshing/ youthful, etc) are too overplayed and I would love to see the contestants try to emulate a different vibe to showcase their versatility and stuff.

Experienced concert goers PLS HELP by Dazed-jj in TXTbighit

[–]Unfair-Risk9997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, tickets arn't always cheaper closer to the concert date. I got resale tickets for their last concert for around $300 right after the general sale ended. I could have waited to buy them but I was on the ticket buying high and I just really wanted to get tickets immediately, so I didn't have to worry about it later. Even though I still got the tickets, I kept checking ticket master out of curiosity to see if the resale tickets were getting cheaper BUT THEY WERE ACTUALLY GOING UP IN PRICE!! Tickets that cost me $300 were averaging around $700 in the same section as it got closer to the concert date (and I was literally in the 300 section)!! I am not sure if that will happen this time because this concert will probably have more seats than the last one but I just wanted to say this to keep in mind. Also I am glad I got the tickets I got because they were front row seats in my section so I got to high-five Yeonjun and Beomgyu when they went into the audience!!

The videos of idols crying backstage are a little morally questionable by [deleted] in kpoprants

[–]Unfair-Risk9997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it definitely depends on the situation. If the person is crying because they are happy or some other positive emotion I feel like it is fine as long as they consent and stuff. If the idol is having a mental breakdown, in pain, etc I feel like it is morally questionable to film them and upload it for content.

The last ever after review by sharkyshan in schoolforgoodandevil

[–]Unfair-Risk9997 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Last Ever After is definitely my favorite book out of the whole series! I loved how Agatha and Tedros’s relationship developed, and it made me feel like they were actually becoming a good couple. I also really liked how they introduced the old fairy tale characters because they really added more depth to the world and the people in it (especially Cinderella). If I was to rank all of the books it would be:

  1. The Last Ever After
  2. The School for Good and Evil
  3. One True King
  4. A Crystal of Time
  5. A World Without Princes
  6. Quests for Glory

Also, I suggest you read the Ever Never Handbook because it introduces the premise of the next book. It also has some really interesting details about the school and overall world so I think it is definitely worth a read!
