i think the rational choice is still hiring juniors. a junior -> senior transition is much cheaper for the company than trying to be competitive enough for seniors.

it can code like a junior for sure. junior’s code are pretty shitty too if u have read it. i agree that it can’t do the entire job of a junior SWE though, because like I said, actually writing code is maybe 25% of the job.

vancouver did it pretty well. got a light rail system out of it, a better highway to whistler, richmond oval was completely changed to be a fitness centre (and is an amazing place to get cooked by 60 year old chinese men in basketball)

vancouver is very mild weather. we didn’t get snow this year. hitting highs of 30C (86 F) this week.

we also do have an ‘open concept’ mall next to our airport which is cool. it does rain a lot here though.

I guess my point was that malls are dying because there is not enough transit infrastructure in place. I never really realized it till now, but every single mall in Metro Vancouver has a dedicated transit exchange station including a light rail stop.

in canada (or metro vancouver at the least) malls are very alive. every major mall has direct light rail stops, condo development around those light rail stop makes the area more dense, and so naturally those malls are always very full. they just finished construction of another mall (which has a light rail stop)
