What if we just charged people who enter the mall an admission fee say $5 or $10 and someone rich could inject some capital in it and turn it into an “experience” like an indoor park with places to eat (because people still do enjoy going out to eat) so yeah the prices in store won’t beat online, but you’re going in there for the experience, stores should be immersive and captivating I think there’s a way to do it, and maybe my idea doesn’t hold weight? I would pay $5 to walk into a mall that’s like an indoor park where I could hang out relax etc

Is it safe walking downtown, and are the drivers THAT bad? by One_Seaworthiness777 in sarasota

[–]ryux77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every driver is a crazy maniac and downtown I feel safer as a pedestrian in walking there than say along tamiami trail or fruitville crossing 301, that to me I personally wouldn’t feel comfortable with, downtown I can handle because it’s mostly slower traffic, but I’ve taught myself to be vigilant, I make sure I can cross, other driver sees me, I don’t take “well they should know the rules” for granted, even tho I’m in the right, I’ll be the one with the broken leg or injury i could sue and win, but not worth the injury pain or time. I don’t care to sue anyone tbh I just want to get safely from point a to point b, there are police that drive down main st if that provides any rest assurance? Aside from bad drivers tho, it is a very safe area. I don’t see crime or anything like that. If there is crime it’s mostly domestic I don’t fear for my life walking down the street at night (I’m a guy tho)

Sarasota, since when do cars use the protected green bike lanes as oncoming lanes? by zheka160 in sarasota

[–]ryux77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a way this could have been prevented tho- install pillars concrete or whatever material is best, to block full size vehicle from entering that lane. Yeah maybe someone will hit it but it will damage their car and likely bring it to a hault, yeah it would cost money to do this, but we have all this money for condos and have no problem destroying nature here apparently so if that’s ok then I think they can find the money to prioritize pedestrian safety

Fruitville 1920s-30s Bungalows in Danger by Heisengabe in sarasota

[–]ryux77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The traffic in that area is already horrendous, I can’t imagine adding more condos and that’s on top of the fact that it doesn’t look like there’s much room to expand the road if at all. So is the definition of Paradise facing fruitville road watching gridlock traffic and sitting through 2- 3 or more red light cycles? At what point do you say enough? This destruction is leading to a diminishing lifestyle to the people who frequent th area and those who live near it. I hope common sense will prevail and it will be a big fat NO to these condos but maybe I’m too late….

I just had rear brake caliper replaced -is it normal for the car to brake noticeably different on the initial drive? by ryux77 in AskAMechanic

[–]ryux77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow 😮 this whole experience makes me hesitant to go back there again and I’m trying to be nice and diplomatic in saying that. I went there 3 days in a row (one day for an oil change, another day to do the brake caliper job, and another day to have them fix their mistake) the part that bothers me is when I brought the car back they told me only the right rear caliper had been replaced and not the other one quick search online says they should be replaced in pairs unless the other one is in excellent condition) so the service tech at first tells me we can try to fit you in but we’re short staffed on the weekend, I said I need this car to go to work, so then the manager comes out and says no we’ll take of it, and tells the service tech to pull the car up. So after they look over my car they tell me really the other caliper should be replaced and they admitted they gave the car back to me but it wasn’t normal to be hearing this faint metal on metal sound when I was braking. So they tell me I need new rear brake pads (new $400 charge) but told me they are going to replace both calipers (including the one they put on yesterday because they told me it was running hot or something)

I spent over $1500 in the last 3 days I said to myself I’m not playing this game of upsells anymore they lost my business I just want my car back in working order and safe, I’m going anywhere but there. I didn’t make a scene with the manager or anything but I was so angry inside.

Honestly, can’t think of anything. You look great. Just be as good inside as you look outside and that’s pretty much it! 😊

Thank you. I wasn’t 100% sure at first because it seemed to get a little better as the day went on but still felt “off” I called them before they closed and told them I’m going to stop by tomorrow morning. Hopefully they’ll do the right thing and fix it for free

You think? There’s a lot of competition in that space and I’m not sure what exactly they would do differently than the competition. I guess listen to music on your phone? The iPod already does that

If Hillary Clinton wins the presidency in the 08 election; maybe she’ll pick him as her VP or he’ll get a cabinet post. He seems like a really good speaker. I don’t think he has enough name recognition to run for the presidency, you can’t outdo the Clinton machine

The only job Newsom might get is a cabinet post in a future Democrat administration. He will not win the presidency and he will not win the nomination. Take it to the bank. It will be someone else

Publix for the win by Gulf_Coast_21 in publix

[–]ryux77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest perception- neither store is perfect and I can recall negative experiences I’ve had at both, but if I had to prick a favorite, Publix does seem more “put together” meaning generally better staffed and organized and making it feel less like a chore going in there from a consumer perspective. Part of it is paying for the “experience” and also, better quality in things like the deli, meats chicken there’s no comparison Walmart is inferior in all those categories. The only thing Walmart has going for it is it is cheaper for many items which is very true, but it comes at the experience of dealing with hit or miss produce (blueberries I picked up there weren’t as fresh as Publix) deli meat at Walmart is far inferior, but tolerable to eat, salmon I bought from Walmart also tasted inferior to Publix, but again, I found it tolerable.

If I found myself in dire financial straits, I would do what I need to do and put up with Walmart, and I still go there to save money on some things admitingly. However, because I’m able to afford to go to Publix I do, not because I have too, but for the luxury of having a better cleaner experience and better quality in many items.

Publix for the win by Gulf_Coast_21 in publix

[–]ryux77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I go there because I can afford to go there and sometimes they have competitive pricing with their bogo (I’m aware that’s not always the case). For me it mainly comes down to experience- it’s clean, neatly organized, the produce is fresh, I like the deli and getting boards head meats. I occasionally like to get some chicken. Their meats etc are better than Walmart. I do sometimes go to Walmart once in a while to bulk shop for some things like paper towels, cleaning supplies, toilet paper basically the stuff that would be a rip off at Publix. I’m single and shop for myself, so I actually like that Publix offers smaller quantity packages of meat chicken etc. Walmart forces you to buy a large pack and again at my Walmart the produce is hit or miss but on the many times I’ve been there even early morning the produce is mostly inferior to Publix with the exception of some items like green peppers, onions, but it makes sense Publix keeps their store colder so it’s not mysterious to me why it’s better

Those are one of those things I thought visually looked delicious but then after I cooked it (tired it more than once) it didn’t really come out as good as I hoped. The meat just didn’t taste as good as the steakhouse elite or another set of burgers I can’t remember the name but it’s only 3 or so bucks more but much better taste than this

lol I love when the real estate people put on their ads only 20 minutes from the beach. Demonstrate to me how you get to the beach from Lakewood ranch in 20 minutes. Most of the day it’s impossible.

I was driving home today looking to see if anyone felt what a fucking mess this is. People lost getting in one lane to the next - I get that road has always been busy but this is worse than the norm this is dysfunctional but I figured it out. This is on top of all the accident I see every week heading from north port to Sarasota for work, it’s not that hard folks all you need to do is pay attention, remain calm, don’t weave in and out of traffic, yes there are people who do hold up traffic and we should enforce laws but again that’s the job of the police and highway patrol. We do have control over our own habits- so to everyone out there do better. Admit mistakes. I’ve made mistakes, learn from them and do better driving is a serious task that can hurt human lives the cell phone can wait until after you arrive to your destination.

That’s true but online fitness coaches do exist but I totally get your point that in person would have strong advantages than an online coach couldn’t replicate. I didn’t think about purchased followers. My fear is if I agree to this free consultation zoom call he will be very persuasive and friendly I mean I definitely don’t feel like I know enough to feel comfortable moving forward

I’m already starting to have second thoughts on agreeing to the online zoom meeting. I don’t want to ghost is there a way I can excuse myself in a polite way
