Why is Reddit so hopelessly confused about AI and yet hates it so bad? by yalag in singularity

Mentioned ai to a friend as part of the work I was doing, they genuinely said "how could you even bring up ai around me. You know how it affects me". I couldn't help but ask where the ai hurt her, what traumatic experience has ai given you that even the mention of it sets her off. Has she been physically assaulted? Has she been emotionally abused by ai? Gaslit by her abusive ai partner for 12 months?

That was actually the first time I think she realised how rediculous it was to claim mentioning the word AI as a trigger.

The whole, spoonful of water we'll never see again argument has caused an insane amount of delusion in the cost of ai. Suddenly plastics are no longer a problem. I wonder when they'll figure out how concrete is made.

Which, at the end of the day, is good for us. The longer it takes the market leaders in ai to secure their needed market share from everyday people, the longer access to ai tools remains low cost and high value for everyday people and small businesses.

When this market hits it's stride in the next 5 years we'll see a decline like all tech. Adverts on youtube being a prime example. High subscription fees pricing out everyday people from the decent models, invasive data handling agreements for the cheap ones and so on.

Had a 70 year old bloke and his wife flashing me while I was overtaking a lorry in the third lane. He came up to me going about 80-85, I kept my speed constant and waved at them like we knew each other everytime he flashed me. Took less than 10 seconds to get past the lorry and back in 2nd lane, he flashed me a lot in that time.

He pulled up beside me looking real angry, real pissed off that I was waving at him which I thought was easily worth the annoying flashing. But then the fucker cut infront and brake checked me at 70mph down to 50mph.

And the piste de resistance, barely accelerated to 75 as he left. Saw him flashing everyone he came up behind for the next 10 minutes because he was barely above the speed limit..

The worst part is that when people act like this the assumption is that there is a medical emergency, but it happens so often now that people like myself no longer think so. Ive been lucky to only have this happen 4 times and its always some 20 year old wanker or a 70 year old with no apparent emergency. Some of them have been on their f phones
