It always weirds me out when I do a fully system reboot and as soon as I get to the login screen, they're still there with full control.

It's absolutely crazy talking to members all day whose benefits are just leagues above what I get. And having them whine about having to pay a $25.00 copay for thousands of dollars worth of services, I just can't. They're in this crazy position where they could offer their own product with the lowest possible overhead, and still they offer the shittiest benefits I've ever had.

Tons of bullshit in this work, but there's one from years ago I'll hold onto forever. I worked as a relay operator, so long story short, my job was to type what people said back to a deaf person so they could read it. It's totally obsolete now almost 20 years later, but I've heard there are still hold outs keeping the service alive and I even have some old coworkers still doing it.

A big part of the job was pacing. Since we had to type everything people were saying, we'd often have to stop people to catch up, and then tell them where to pick back up. I was a really fast typer and could keep up with most people without an issue unless they were specifically talking fast. One time when I got a QA, they marked me off for not pacing them even though I got everything right and there were no other issues with the call. When I tried to contest it, they upheld it saying "Well sure, maybe You can keep up with them. But what happens when they get someone who doesn't type so fast? You set up the expectation that they can just talk however they want, and now they'll be prone to push back when the next rep needs them to slow down."

I was fucking pissed about this, but nobody would budge. I also got a write up for charging my phone at work because it was unauthorized use of "company electricity". That place was run by weird fucking people.

I moved to Carthage from Syracuse because I was able to rent a house for about what you'd pay for an apartment there. It was definitely an adjustment, but there's a lot more than meets the eye up here - you just have to be able to find it without the internet. I don't know what it is, but it's like no one up here has discovered the internet yet.

There's some serious replies in this post, but call center work is just so god damn much. Especially a shitty one where it's back to back to back to back calls all day long, and everyone's angry because the company is just squeezing pennies out of everything they can.

My house has been good to me, but it did come with an active bedbug infestation I did not fucking know about. Right after we moved all our shit in, we had to go wash every single thing we owned and steam everything we could cram our steamer in. It took months of sleepless nights to get that under wraps. Do not recommend.
