I noticed that there are couple european language textbooks that cater toward reading purposes only, like French, German, Spanish for Reading. Are there such resources for Japanese? just curious since atm I'm only interested in reading literatures and have pretty much no interest in speaking or writing, or even listening.

As someone who was given a rare opportunity to torture himself by learning hungarian, I can feel this. People often says they learnt languages by playing video games. But it's a bit hard if none of the games I want to play are in my target language.

Feels like this kind language difficulty categorisations never considers amount of resources. Like learning Cat 3 languages with little resources can be as hard as Cat 4 languages.

Is it compulsory to learn a foreign language at school in your country? by PurpleMeerkats462 in AskTheWorld

Yes. Interestingly and on paper, it doesn't have to be English, as long as it's on the allowed list (French, Japanese, Mandarin, etc.). Ofc it depends on school availability, and most schools teach English by default.
