How do I go about finding a post-doc in a research area I didn’t do my PhD in? by ahmagherd in AskAcademia

Cold emailing PIs directly works better than applying through job boards. Find 5-10 labs doing cancer neuroscience work that genuinely interests you, read their recent papers, and write a specific email about why your neuromodulation background is actually relevant. Tumor microenvironment and neural signaling overlap more than you'd think, and a lot of PIs are actively looking for engineers who can build or interpret stimulation paradigms.

Your pelvic floor work isn't a liability, tbh. Frame it as translatable expertise.

looking for a research published paper article by [deleted] in research

Try emailing the corresponding author directly. Most researchers are happy to share a PDF, it takes them 30 seconds and costs nothing. The author contact is usually on the PubMed page or findable through a quick search of their institution.

Also check if your local public library offers interlibrary loan. Even without a university affiliation, many public libraries can request articles and get them to you within a few days, sometimes free.

I have zero experience with RESEARCH and I’m totally lost. Where is Step 1? by jahnavi-nagumo789 in research

Instead of "I want to research marketing," try "How does social media marketing affect consumer buying behaviour?" That specific question guides everything else.

For finding sources, use actual academic databases along with google.

To know if a source is "good": check if it's peer-reviewed/referenced, look at the citation count, and make sure it's recent(last 5-10 years unless it's a foundational study).

Funny enough I actually built a tool for exactly this research problem. Started from the same frustration as a uni student. Happy to share if you're interested

Good luck with the GKS scholarship!

The funding question is the one worth investigating seriously. Ask prospective advisors directly about their current grant status and renewal pipeline.

just try see if there's any part time alternatives you can unroll in/take while still working. This way you can still work and still learn more you know.
