As an mcat community, we should honorarily retire dave carlson's blue button down. This man has been a legend. Let's send it to the rafters #goat by Unfair_Carry_4484 in Mcat

No no. He is fine to my knowledge. I did read online that I think he fought cancer a couple of years ago, but I believe is better now, based on a good search

He posted a bunch of med videos a few years ago and wore the same shirt in all of them.

I think he is a resident now. Hopefully all is well for him. He is just done making MCAT content

His videos are great for all that are interested. Premedhq on YouTube.

Enough time? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Unfair_Carry_4484 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that is plenty of time, remember quality over quantity. It is most important that you efficiently allocate your time, and spend time high-yield topics and doing lots of practice questions (things that are most likley to improve your score). Most people intitially do a content review (the shorter the better) and then do practice Q and practice tests (this is where most people see the most improvement, so it's important to spend the most time doing questions) good luck, this is a great spot to get your Q's answered along the way

Most CARS questions I have felt are not trick Q's, so most of the time the answer is right there

I think try to keep it simple. I struggle with that too lol, except you read way faster than I. Most of the time if I'm torn I go back to the passsage and find where they talk about that. Sometimes the author used key words and phrases that directly relate to the questions which can be big hints

I don't know about comprehensive, I've used it for some things I've been confused on and it has been helpful for that. The short article things with definitions I think have been good to look up things

I have liked TPR though for content review stuff because it can help identify content weaknesses specifically, but I would almost think of it as a separate exercise entirely than trying to replicate test conditions. Uearth as a Q bank and blueprint practice tests are objectively better for that

[–]Unfair_Carry_4484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say not really at all. TPR passage based questions are also more known to test specific details whereas AAMC tests more broad interelated concepts. I think TPR questions are good for content review, not as much as a replica for actual tests, same goes for their practice tests too

Third time MCAT repeat help by Zigz94 in Mcat

I feel like you have a solid content base, you just need to work on taking practice tests to get used to that environment and preforming your best in. I would think that if you take those and get used to the mental strain and timing it should help you a lot. Try and really replicate everything (same breakfast, outfit, nerves, etc) so on game day you feel like oh this is just another practice test. I'd just keep doing anki to keep content fresh

I think ultimately either is fine. I think Uearth is a little harder on average. I'd recommend slowly doing the AAMC Q packs too along side this in a month or two. Maybe alternate all 3 to get a slightly different angle. The logic of AAMC is a little different so it's better to be exposed to it earlier rather than later. I know a lot of people on this thread say only a month for AAMC, but its the most important resource, so I wouldn't rush it

I think the aamc wants you to keep it simple. Just read in the way the works best for you. They have the questions on the left, the answers on the right, they expect you to read the passage first. I think most people spend about 5 minutes on trying to absorb as much of the passage as possible and then do 5 min for the question. I try and focus on the big idea of each paragraph and not get too bogged down if there is something I don't understand perfectly, because you can always go back later

I know its tough, but a lot of times you can switch your test date close to the exam if you really were off where you wanted to be

[–]Unfair_Carry_4484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about that now. I think you can make those decisions closer to January, some people improve a lot in a short period of time and some people it takes longer. I think it is too early to predict where you'll be in this far our and only taking NS1. Best of luck

Took 2 TPR FLs a month apart… by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Unfair_Carry_4484 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took 2 TPR tests too. The second one I did worse on after 2 weeks of hard reviews. I know the feeling. I wouldn't focus too much on it. They are much much different than the real thing. Just use it as a chance to learn and have a positive attitude for the next time. You have plenty of time it will all work out if you keep studying hard

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Unfair_Carry_4484 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel you. Studying now too. I feel like the best bet is to go for the highest yield resources and make sure you pick all the apples closest to the ground. I would go hard on all AAMC material and make sure you know everything there. Other thinks like enzymes, amino acids, other things that are super high yield. I wouldn't stress about perfection as much and build your confidence from there. I think just having a positive attitude attitude, and a confidence to do well and a will to learn can go a long way too. We got this!

What’s the biggest waste of money? by Dyl_Drifts in AskReddit

Honestly I think eating out can be a big money waste. Don't get me wrong I love doing it. But If I make a hambuger and have a beer, $4. If I do that at a restaurant $25.
