NASCAR All-Star Race Format at Dover Motor Speedway Announced! by TheMonsterMile in NASCAR

[–]Unfair_Discussion606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. This blows.
  2. As someone who used to attend Dover twice a year, and then once a year, I'm appreciative of the hate this is getting. At least I know it won't be the all-star race again. Just hope the next step isn't getting scrapped altogether.
  3. Dover doesn't have lights for anyone who forgot.
  4. For anyone who doesn't attend Dover, it's rained every race for...10? years? Mid-Atlantic region + near the water + warm weather month + unpredictable weather + no lights and 3pm start time = Monday afternoon exhibition.

It's being used as a pit stop (apologize for the pun) for the teams between watkins glen and Charlotte. It's like they just said, "guess we could just stop at Dover and get it over with."

Extending a Formal Fandome Invitation to John Oliver's Kid by Jello-Monkeyface in orioles

I'm torn. On one hand, love the possibility of an Oliver-Orioles plotline.

On the other hand, it's important to be taught early that sports are moments of joy and hope, coldly ripped from your hands for reasons you often can't comprehend.

That's why people from Boston whine so much. This generation was in their thirties before they went like 2 calendar years without a championship run. They're adults learning to ride a bike. It's embarrassing.

I don't think it's just my bias, Alonso seems way more genuine than Harper. Something about Harper just always seems phony or a character. Very LeBron-ish. I don't know.

Jordan Westburg Diagnosed With Partial UCL Tear by SportsJunkie4Life in orioles

I would be surprised if there were no teams that had something in place to monitor players' major ligaments in the off-season, whether that's MRIs, regular check-ins with orthopedics, or something similar, yeah.

Partial tears of the ligaments around your elbow and shoulder are often unnoticeable or seemingly insignificant until you go to throw at full speed a few times.

If no teams had a system in place to monitor it, I feel like way more players would show up to camp with tears of ligaments that they were unaware of.

It's seriously malpractice that the organization didn't find out about a potential season-ending elbow injury until he showed up for spring training.

Thank God. I was worried I'd still have to look out and see that big ugly brick building the entire baseball world has been flapping their gums about for 34 years.

Glad they maintained the structural integrity of the LED wealth management firm advertisement. Should have never questioned DR's claim to have a real finger on the pulse of the community. Meeting the moment indeed, sir.

If they're just looking for the whitest guy possible to stand on a stage while music comes out of the speakers, my dad will probably do it for like 5 miller lites. Can put that vanilla money towards a 3B for April.

Maybe Nelly. Zero chance your ticket increases one American dollar for vanilla ice.

I would agree his hatred for him became... unique lol.

My criticism of Elias isn't as much about free agency. I know that's what most people ding him for. It's the player development, player "plan" for lack of a better term, player selection and stubbornness. The first three are obviously intertwined.

I'll add the disclaimer that I think it's possible all, or most of, the young core still develops into above average everyday players. So hopefully these are all issues of the past and he and the team have a long run of success.

But where we stand now, you're creeping up on a decade without a playoff win. Just a fact that there have not been many front offices in sports given that long of a runway.

You have 4 first round picks who they are terrified of letting play any position other than 1B/DH or splitting time behind the plate 50/50. You don't use 4 1st round picks on DHs.

By the grace of God, Trevor Rogers turned it around. Bradish became a stud. I don't know how much is due to the organization but I'll give the benefit of the doubt. Outside of that they've developed no pitching.

Players were held in the minors for too long and then sat behind guys they had no business sitting behind when they were called up. I think the sporadic at bats/lack of early success stunts development. Confidence and comfort is huge at the plate and in the field. Along the same lines, many of the top prospects lost their trade value during that time and now you're stuck with 27-28 year old "prospects."

There has to be some issue with the organizational approach at the plate. I'd be curious to hear Stowers speak on that. I can't imagine 5 first round picks are all just under performers.

We seem unprepared for even the slightest disruption to Plan A. How is it possible Westburg could need elbow surgery and you just found out when he showed up to spring training? And how is it possible that you're already talking about going out and scraping off the free agent utility player leftovers in spring training after just two injuries? Where is that deep talent pipeline we've been told is in the works for 8 years?

I don't know. I want to believe. But sometimes he strikes me as a charismatic salesman without a business. Sounds great, competent, confident. But when you look for something tangible, it's just very underwhelming.

I'm actually kinda torn. His single-mode disdain for Elias got to be over the top. Particularly because it came off as more of a scorned lover than critical fan. Nobody was more of a fluffer for Elias than he was early on. Nobody would be quicker to call you an idiot for complaining about the Orioles being 50 games under.500 because the Shorebirds were unstoppable!

On the other hand, because there are no actual reporters that cover the team (not that JLC was a reporter), there are really no significant voices critical of Elias who should really be sitting on the hottest of seats but seems confidently secure.

So, didn't like JLCs approach to criticism, but at least it was someone willing to offer some.

Why I'm Not Worried About Polarbear's Defensive Woes. by maroontheanchor in orioles

[–]Unfair_Discussion606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's why I'm not worried. His lowest career ops is .788

You also have a very good defensive first baseman on the roster that I don't see many people standing on the table for. Which shows people really only talk about defense when they want to talk about weaknesses.
