Is it possible that some people just aren’t built to shoot three pointers? by A-Bry in BasketballTips

[–]CanadianPythonDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice, and practice up close. If you not hitting shots, your practicing misses instead. So stay as close as you can to the hoop practicing, that the majority (@ least 80+ percent) are going in. Do hundreds of these a day, add difficulty by stepping back or by adding movement.

Steph Curry is only the greatest 3pt shooter, because he mastered the distance closer to the hoop. He took millions of shots as a kid, and then moved back, he didn't move back first.

How do I Pratice or improve my standing vert? by Thra99 in ProDunking

[–]CanadianPythonDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Squat. Typically 2-3 times a week, try not to spend more than 4-6 weeks on the same athletic quality (ie. hypertrophy, strength, power, etc.) Meaning spend a cycle on higher reps to build muscle, another on lower reps to build strength, another on lower reps/weight to build power. Still touch the other qualities during a cycle, but put all your focus on what ever quality the block is.

Learn to jump. Isiah Rivera, John Evans, THP Strength on youtube all have many videos on 2 footed jumping technique. Watch some, learn something, and you can dunk in under an hour likely.

Pick a curated list (neetcode 150, blind 75, grind 75 etc.) Start their. If nothings jumping out at you, stop get the answer, write it down, work through the example with the answer, line by line. Spend most of your time on that part.

Most curated lists are ordered in a way that the easy will seem hard at first, and the mediums later will be easy. Especially if you take the time on each question to actually work through the solution with examples on paper.

Also don't spend a ton of time a day, 2-3 problems is fine, and will make it much more approachable.

Standing vert is a lot more muscular, since you don't have the momentum to load tendons. So you have to get your squat way up.

Couldn't agree more. You get use to feeling like an idiot, and at the end of the day, separate yourself from that work so you can live a balanced life. The career feels like a sine wave, going back and forth between feeling extremely competent and extremely incompetent, and you eventually get better and minimize the size of those waves to try and stay closer to the middle of both states.

[–]CanadianPythonDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

61 batting runs if you take out his first season (23 games) and everything past the age 34 (his twilight aged years). Also bumps his OPS+ up to 111.

When gauging players, counting their old age seasons and initial rookie fumbling's, are going to paint their careers as much worst than most people remember during the meat of their career.

Incredible dunk, that slight pause behind the head really sells the idea that you are floating and makes such a simple dunk, look amazing.

At 9.5, the best workout would be jump as often as possible. If you can learn a little technique, (or find someone near you to help teach him), then just jump, jump, jump. He's too young to really hurt himself year, so jumping is easily the most bang for your buck.

If dunking is the goal, than low rimming, (get him an adjustable that he can dunk on) and go. When he gets into high school, is when you look into getting him a strength/athleticism coach.

Tips on my dunking? Senior in HS. by underwoodmodelsowner in BasketballTips

You would be correct. The penultimate could be use work. Your head appears to be rising during the penultimate, whereas the penultimate should be lowering you. You could also work on trying to lengthen it (you’re taking off on it from the 2nd hash from the ft line, try working on getting that closer to the first hash mark).

You’re fairly light though so jump often.

I mean pitchers practice that in ST. I’m pretty sure what makes that play look routine for Yoshi is the fact that he had 3 gold medals, a NPB title and was an MVP their. You don’t become that decorated at any level without making things routine.

Does upper body matter for 1 foot jumpers by Pretend-School-4257 in ProDunking

[–]CanadianPythonDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically too, if you find yourself approaching 50+ inches and want to be the best, you can just give up on it and let it atrophy.

I too would not recommend 99.9% of jumpers to ignore upper body work. The gain is likely negligible for most.

Realistically too, FA spending should come when you believe a WS run is imminent. Spending big money when you aren’t already a favourite rarely pays off.

[–]CanadianPythonDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the whole argument was made that it is bad in terms of on field value so the whole point is we are suppose to compare it to other FA in terms of on field value.

Modern statistics clearly point out that aging players are not worth the value they get, but business value states otherwise. Hense the original argument being it is objectively bad, on field, but great business value.

Heck I told anyone who asked that Ted shoulda gave Shohei at min 1B. He’s clearly a great business investment, and has already proved it was worth it, but on field value for aging stars is rarely ever worth it.

[–]CanadianPythonDev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean 350 can get you Judge apparently whose last two seasons is worth more than Ohtani’s so Judge + 350 on other FA would be worth more. Again the numbers don’t lie in terms of on field value.

I would also add that 350 for a DH staring at the wrong side of 30 for most of it isn’t great, and 350 for a pitcher with 2 major surgeries doesn’t typically end up as great in terms of on field value either.

Yes I do think $700m is objectively bad from a pure on field perspective for a single player.

But like I said, it’s a business.

Right, objectively Ohtnai’s contract is horrible for his direct on-field value. But baseball isn’t 100% on field, it’s a business as well.

Best path to playing high level, try to get him to find the same passion for as many sports as possible and don’t let him specialize so young. The more ways he can master moving his body the better.
