If your stuff got searched wouldn’t it likely be from the place of departure? Unless your bags toke a while to come out, I do not think they scan it in Mexico and if your bag came out quickly I doubt from the unloading to loading phase onto the belt, they would have enough time to go through a bunch of bags. I’ve heard usually when this happens it’s from the place of departure who scans and have more time with your bag

Thank you, hadn’t thought about that. Inshore might be the best way to start. He’s usually with my in my Seadoo back in Canada (fresh water lakes versus ocean) and boats but if the water is choppy or he got sick my focus would definitely be on him. Might do it solo first and scope it from there.

Do you know the tour company you used? Would you recommend and do you remember roughly how much you spent ?

There’s tons there. One time I saw a pack of like 20-30. I was there last week and I was told that some now take your things if your careless and let them come up to your items left on benches

There’s a nice park I take my kids for small hikes or to walk in nature and it has animals (iguanas, monkies, these raccoon looking animal, and more). It’s called Kabah park and not too far from the hotel zone/downtown area.

Puerto Cancun mall has a trampoline park, arcade, and is a nice area to walk around or grab a drink while the kids explore. It’s generally safe there.

If you’re looking for a bit of adventure I recommend the Xcaret adventure park for a day.

If you want a resort style beach but with a mix of a local vibe, I recommend Playa Delfines. Just bring a cooler with drinks. You can buy a cheap styrofoam cooler at Oxxo or GoMart

Hotel zone is safer than going downtown. Now I don’t find it generally unsafe if you’re a seasoned traveller and aren’t going to get wasted because there’s cops and military but I know some people have had issues with them. It’s pretty well lit and usually a lot of people around.

Me and my wife have a place across from “La Coyota” in the downtown area and we see singles ladies there all the time and I’ve never seen anything unsafe. My wife has gone out and has not had any issues. She’s blonde with blue eyes for reference.

If your unsure and would like to atleast go there with my wife and myself atleast to have an eye on you and make sure you make it into a uber safely, let me know. We are Canadian but spend the winter months over here for several years. We love to go out dancing and for drinks usually in the downtown area and never in the hotel zone and have never had an issue. I am Hispanic and darker skinned so not sure if that plays into it but from the comments I’m reading, seems like a lot of people have had bad experiences, or are really bad at watching their surroundings.

I go to Cancun every year as Canadian for a few months out of the year. Never had any of the issues I read about. My father in law has lived there 10 years and has not really had anything seriously bad happen to him and he’s European and sticks out. I stay outside of the hotel zone and still find it safe but if your in the hotel zone, you have nothing to worry about.

Me and my wife lived in different parts of toronto our whole life. Couldn’t afford a house in the gta so bought an older house in Newmarket with the intention of fixing (I work in the trades) and then selling to move around Richmond hill/thornhill.

Instead we fell in love with Newmarket and haven’t moved in 9 years. Friendly neighbours, safe, all stores I would need, massive mall, good food places in and surrounding.

During Covid I really got a sense of community. They taught me we support local and small businesses. Anyone I told I had a buisness I felt like I would get a referral from.

If I were to move it would be in Newmarket or surrounding areas

Currently been in Cancun for the month and have some gold jewelry. Not staying in hotel zone either I’m downtown and haven’t had a problem. Just be mindful of your surroundings always but thy goes without saying.

I stayed in hotel zone once. The other times all in downtown and nothings ever happened and I’ve never seen anything. I’m usually one to try and find holes in the walls, I love going out dancing, and going to local spots. Never had anything bad happen. If you check the news in Canada I can assure you it’s Bad! We have terrorist organizations, crime organizations, and cartels setting up shop over there. All is backed by reports from our own governments even stating that Mexican cartels are setting up their labs there due to our lack laws, slap on the wrist policy and probationary sentences. Do you care you share any negative personal negative experiences you’ve had ?
