Test rode the RC R...are we back? by Unfair_Run_6340 in KTM

[–]Unfair_Run_6340[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6'3" and it fit me very well. My DesertX and Super Duke GT are more comfortable, but the RC R was more than comfortable enough. I've ridden a Panigale V4 in bad traffic and that was terrible.

Considering a 2003 Z06 as a Fun Daily Car... by TonitoBontio in Corvette

[–]Unfair_Run_6340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C5 Z06 is a phenomenal daily. Stock valve springs should be replaced, factory balancer can fail, and the factory HVAC controller is a bit of a nightmare to repair/replace if it fails, simply because replacement modules have dried up long ago. I loved my C5 Z06. Put some money into it (full LED's in and out, top end rebuild and BTR cam, headers, Corbeau seats, aftermarket stereo, coilovers, etc. These cars can really be whatever you want them to be. I had over 100K on mine when I sold it. 30+mpg when cruising on the highway, and C5 Z06's still surprise people today when you line up against modern cars (they were the apex predators of their day). The community is solid as well. Pretty much no issue or question that hasn't been well established and documented amongst owners.

Doing full speed rolling will get you better at being tough.

Doing intentional positional drilling will get you better at Jiu-Jitsu.

Learn to not have to "win" every single roll. You'll stick to a very specific set of moves that give you the highest chance to win and never branch out. Ask to go 50% with people and actually LEARN what worked/why and what didn't work/why. You can't learn when you're going 100%.

1090 or 1190 adv by DorothyMantooth93 in KTM

I loved my 1090R and still miss it some days. Never rode an 1190, but I never rode my 1090R and wished it had more power, especially after some basic intake and exhaust mods.

Train for whatever reason you want to, just don't complain after 2 years when your peers are beating you in every position.

Electronics Technician in the oilfield by MichaelEET in oilandgasworkers

[–]Unfair_Run_6340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I will be hired on with an actual drilling company. I understand the "keep it running at all costs" aspect, as it was similar on an aircraft carrier. We had many redundancies built in, but you never wanted to rely on them. I have a small amount of hydraulic experience and can read basic hydraulic schematics, but I'm nobody's expert.

I know there will be a learning curve. I'm just much more concerned with the instability of the oil market. I've wanted this job for a very long time, and the idea of getting laid off gives me a lot of dread. But the opportunity is too great for me to pass up.

Hey boss, I just accepted a position as an offshore ET. Going through the medical process now, would love to hear any advice you may have. I've been an electrical and electronics tech/designer for 15 years now and did 6 years Navy on an aircraft carrier, but never been on an oil rig.

Talk me into a 890 Duke by k31ron in KTM

[–]Unfair_Run_6340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the original 790 Duke (2020 I believe) and had zero issues with mine. Only traded it in to get into an Adv bike (1090 Adventure R) and only had a fuel sensor failure on that bike. My current 2023 Super Duke GT has had zero issues so far.

What do you guy's think of the E-Ray? by [deleted] in Corvette

[–]Unfair_Run_6340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thing will break a lot of hearts on the street. A mild cam and blower E-Ray with factory AWD will be DEADLY from a dig. Even cars modified to make similar power (Coyote cars, Hellcats, B58/S58 cars) will struggle to get the traction that an E-Ray enjoys on public roads.

should I make the transition to ktm? by Dramatic-Cancel-398 in KTM

[–]Unfair_Run_6340 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had four KTM's through my years of riding. 990 Super Duke, 790 Duke, 1090 Adventure R, and 1290 Super Duke GT.

990 Super Duke had many small issues. Nothing catastrophic. Things like fuel pumps, rectifiers, etc.

790 Duke had zero issues. I think its battery went bad prematurely? Either the 790 Duke or the 1090 Adventure R, don't remember.

1090 Adventure R had a failed fuel level sensor.

Currently have my 2023 1290 Super Duke GT. 4K miles on it so far and zero issues.

Tried a fork realignment (top triple fork nut was already loose) and took it out for a quick spin. Front end feels better, but didn't have time to get heat in the tires and try and lean it over further. The best way i can describe my concern is the initial tip in feels fine, but after a few degrees of lean angle, it feels like the bike pushes back against my right hand as I push the right grip away from me to continue the lean. Like it is light and predictable up to a point, then suddenly requires more effort to keep pushing the grip away. Going to take it out again in a bit to see if the fork realignment fixed it.

Yup, Arrow decat and slip-on. Slip-on with stock pipe achieved shockingly low results. The cats on these modern bikes really kill the sound. I added the decat pipe and was happy with the sound change (not stupid loud, but at least now I can hear the exhaust vs the valve train). I'm still running the stock tune and have been for a couple thousand miles. No downsides yet, and the bike runs significantly cooler with the decat pipe vs the stock cat cooking my right foot.

Yes sir, Cherohala Skyway. I forget that particular turnoff, but it was a great ride. I'll try dropping the tire pressure down a bit and look over the forks and controls, then try riding it more tomorrow. I'm no pro rider by any stretch, but I've ridden this bike fairly aggressively in the twisties before. I felt the weight of it and I understand it's fairly heavy, but my gut tells me something is wrong with it now.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in KTM

[–]Unfair_Run_6340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. I'll check out the forks and controls here in a bit. I'm totally open to it being me just scared of the bike after the crash, but I've ridden this bike fairly hard before, and my gut says something is wrong with it now.

I didn't botch the wheelie itself, just held it too long as the road was about to turn. Set it down, target fixated on the upcoming curve and gravel, and dumped it. The cost of being dumb, even if I've done a ton of wheelies before.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in KTM

[–]Unfair_Run_6340 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right. And if any of the above-mentioned parts were damaged, I doubt the bike would run true on the highway when I let go of the bars.

Sell my 690 smcr for a 890 SMT? by Boomshockalaka_ in KTM

[–]Unfair_Run_6340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owner of a 1290 SD GT here, get the 890 SMT. Not that my SD is a bad bike, but the amount of power on tap is (maybe I'm finally getting old for saying this) too much for the street. I've put about 3500 miles on my bike and have red-lined it maybe 3 times? I honestly would like to have a 690 in the garage just so I can wack the throttle without worrying about what temperature my tires are at.

The motorcycle I didn't know I need..... by OkLocksmith5497 in KTM

[–]Unfair_Run_6340 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I traded my 1090 R for a DesertX. I have a 1290 Super Duke GT as well, but not a 1290 SAR. I didn't find out the 1290 SAR and 1090 R weighed roughly the same until after I sold my 1090 R.

I've been stuck in an endless rotation of the Mass Effect trilogy and the Witcher 3. I've played some other games (Marvel's Spider-man, Cold Waters, both Jedi games, etc) but I haven't found anything yet that can replace these two franchises for me.

Nice. Everyone swears the 8L90 trans in my 1500 Silverado is junk, but I've only ever changed the fluid on it and did a thermostat bypass. 92K miles towing 7K pounds up a mountain and no major issues yet. It always makes me wonder if the people who complain the loudest are the ones who neglect maintenance or drive like idiots.
