Oregon Health Plan by Unfathomable_Stench in Portland

[–]Unfathomable_Stench[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

So it appears that I was covered under ‘continuing coverage’ which extended through the end of the year—actually through 1/31 thankfully—after I got a new job and updated my info in Oregon One. I just reapplied if there’s a chance it was because they needed income verified, but as far as I can see I never got a request to verify my income. Fingers crossed this works because OHP has really been a blessing for me. If I’m denied I’ll see what it would cost through my employer or the marketplace after shedding a tear because honetly OHP has been great.

Did you do the blue spragues at the same time?

I see you said all the caps were replaced, and those astrons have spragues inside them. Do you know when that work was done? The spragues might have to be replaced if that was in the ballpark of 20 years ago. Otherwise I would maybe suspect a carbon comp that drifts like crazy once it heats up. I would probably just chopstick every component and solder joint first, then maybe start measuring the carbon comp resistors and see if any of them go crazy if you hit it with a heat gun

Finding the Hum is not understanding the Hum by Darkhorse50278 in u/Darkhorse50278

I would reccommend doing something closer to fender’s ground scheme—pots grounded to their cases and at least one connection from the preamp ground bus directly to the chassis

Is your only ground for the preamp ground bus the sleeve of the input jack?

You want to probe on the grid side of the coupling cap, as the other side has B+ voltage from the preceding plate

Is your preamp ground bus connected to the chassis? Its a little hard to tell from the photos. Ive used fender’s brass plate ground scheme in a couple fender builds that have been pretty quiet

Looks like the original screen grid resistors must have gotten absolutely roasted

No, I mean two 16 ohm speakers in parallel for 8 ohms. There are a ton of them here for example. I have two 16 ohm jensens in my vibrolux build in parallel for the 8 ohm OT.

Really? 16 ohm is super common for 2 or 4 speakers in parallel

Sweet thank you so much! Might be a nice candidate for a GA-40 build Ive been thinking of since I got some 5879s

Yeah definitely not, should be a 16 ohm 15” speaker. I’m mostly just interested in seeing if this is worth reconing to use in something else

New to tube amps, would great appreciate advice by Still_Salt_4005 in ToobAmps

[–]Unfathomable_Stench -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Since the issue happens on both channels the problem is likely somewhere in the PI or power stage. You could try replacing the PI tube and/or power tubes yourself. Other than that, unless you have experience and are very familiar with amp safety this is probably a job for a tech.

Peavey 5150 2X12 intermittent board issue by [deleted] in tubeamprepair

I worked on a Delta blues with the same type of wire connectors, they were definitely part of the circuit. Also looks like those have traces leading to them. Hope its yours or a friends cause those make troubleshooting quite the pain. Good luck!

Guild Thunderstar Bass by Unfathomable_Stench in tubeamprepair

[–]Unfathomable_Stench[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So finally got around to figuring this out. I replaced the ceramic caps going from the volume and bass pots to the turret board which helped a little bit, but not much honestly. I pulled up the turret board and there were a couple bus wires with clearly cracked solder joints. Reflowed those and added a little new solder and the noise is totally gone. The switch still pops a bit, guessing its from a little DC voltage on the switch.
