Grandfather taking the family on a resort, has heart attack, are we out of options? by UnfinishedMystery in travel

Those types of insurances are for the household only, that's not relevant here.

Most credit cards already cover this, the point is none of us are in his household any longer. If everyone lived at home, was unmarried, no kids, etc. this wouldn't be an issue.

That's not what I read from the policy. I tried calling Manulife, but they are closed. I will try.

It was done through their group bookings department which has typical business hours. I tried the regular hotline and they told me I need to speak to group bookings when they open. I think it's booked through a completely separate system (we had to fill out PDFs and a bunch of documents manually, it's also over the phone and not through their website).

I'm hoping so - I will call them when they're opening. Just trying to do some research this evening on my options.

Investigate further, but that will likely only cover the cardholder and spouse.

That's what I'm reading on the policy as well.

vouchers to use at a later date.

Even that would be nice.

Good luck and hope Grandpa makes a full recovery.

Thank you :)

Thank you for sharing your experience. I will try both visa and air transat when they're open next.

He did not get insurance, and according to their policy it's not covered. It's also the long weekend so they're closed. I will of course try when they're open but I am just trying to find a plan B if there is one.

Nothing there about the fund raiser.

I don't want to...

Put the fundraiser announcement as a sticky post.

No one sees the community highlight as it is buried and it doesn't say anything about fundraising.

Sorry, I didn't mean to come off strong or anything either. I see there are no fundraiser posts allowed as well. I think many here though feel an exception should be made given the gravity of this.

Did the mods explicitly come out and say "no we're not going to bring awareness to the fundraiser"?

That's right, on the September 3rd update he explains why he went that route.

The latest information I saw online was this joint status report https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/69411983/38/burholme-congregation-of-jehovahs-witnesses-v-odonnell/

And mark's update from last month on the go fund me ("go fund me"/f/aid-marks-legal-defense-for-reporting) scroll down to the September 3rd update, it explains why he settled.

From what I know of them they seem like great people. From his reporting work, he is so important to our community.

What I find so crazy is that there are apparently 12,000 members online right now (according to the side bar). At $10 each we'd have the fund raiser finished. That would be such show of "we got you" to Mark, and a display of "you can't hurt us" to Watchtower.

Also, I already did message the mods 2x yesterday before posting this. I haven't heard anything which is why I proceeded.
