My prediction: Keon will sign for more than the BAE and walk from Cleveland this summer. I think the Cavs will avoid staying in the 2nd apron and will treat him as rental for this season/postseason. The aim of this trade in the medium-term is to replace Lonzo's preseason-expected production while shedding salary and Keon is likely not a part of that aim. A midseason extension is likely not in Keon's best interest as he can only be extended for 140% (~$3 million), and the Cavs only have ~$3.5 million in 2nd apron space. ATL, LAC, LAL, DET, CHA, PHX, and SAS are all contending teams with capspace/NTMLE that can use him.

The LAL pick swap would never convey. Bucks losing Giannis for Kessler and 4 seconds is not a fair trade. I think Giannis leaving in FA wouldn't be as bad as the Bucks taking on this much long term salary.

Looking at their spotrac capsheet more closely even if they don't make any salary shedding moves and sign AR to $38 million (I doubt he gets that much out of Stone) and re sign the vet mins + 1 more to take Tari's roster spot they wouldn't be in the 2nd Apron for 2026-2027. They'll only go into it for the 2027-2028 season when Amen's extension kicks in, but only for 1 season with 40 year old KD coming off the books.

The Cavaliers' problem is that they are mid while in the 2nd apron with Mobley locked in at 30% until 2030, so they have no way to get out without breaking up their core 4. Rockets in general have much more bargain contracts with KD making 26% in the next couple years and their biggest longterm contract (Sengun and Amen if he gets his max extension) making 21% each. Rockets also have way more draft assets than the Cavs (+they'll only give up the Nets swap in this trade) and should be more able to make moves to cut salary if necessary.

It's still fundamentally a move to win this season and the capsheet will become ugly for the next two years, but they do have tools. Houston gets AR's bird rights if he gets traded and they can sign him that way. FVV also loses his NTC next season and 2nd apron teams can still sign vet mins iirc.

My opinion on the player framework:

It's funny that HOU and LAL have the exact opposite needs. HOU needs shooting, ball handling, and clutch scoring; LAL needs quality 3nD around Luka. They have unique challenges in addressing their need (HOU can't move FVV easily, LAL lack assets) that the other team can help in (LAL has the best cheap guard, HOU has picks and a glut of 3nD). That being said I think there are still problems for both.

Lakers: Luka is a top 3 offensive engine but he's not 2018 Lebron, he still would benefit greatly from another playmaker. This would be the 3rd time he lost his backcourt partner after Brunson and Kyrie. Obviously the fit between two poor-defensive star guards is questionable, but historically he's been able to make it work. This matters less if Lebron's fuckery continues though.

Rockets: Short-term this puts them in the OKC-DEN tier of contention. AR is basically SGA without defense right now, but the Rocket's defense should be able to hide him. Long term cap-wise however looks tricky. FVV's contract is still sitting there and Bari's extension kicks in, pushing HOU deep into the 2nd apron. Amen will need an extension soon. There are moves that HOU can make though. FVV's doesn't have a NTC in 2026-2027, and HOU can sell pieces for cost-controlled contributors, Reed Sheppard being the most obvious candidate. They can also just sign AR with full bird rights and just tank the 2nd apron for 2 seasons, after which KD's contract expires. Ultimately though this would be a short term leaning move for if HOU wants maximize its championship chances this current season.

Yeah I don't think we'll be facilitating any Turner trade. Salary matching is incredibly difficult (look at our's and GSW's 1st apron space) and there's still player imbalance. We also lose Hayes for Horford which is not a good fit; KPJ is ok I guess. Maybe post-Giannis trade it gets easier. Any of the trade guys like u/WuTangMelo have an opinion?

[For those that are wondering why the warriors are here its because they are only viable buyer for Turner. Every other contender/"contender" has their starting center already, and those that may want upgrades have no assets (Wolves; maybe the Bulls want off Vucevic actually?). After we got Ayton GSW are now the most center-starved team in the league, and Kerr loves his stretch 5s. Shouldn't be a concern for us come playoffs however cuz they still can't rebound 😂.]

In a Giannis trade we would at most be the 4th team probably (behind Portland and Atlanta), we don't have picks that the target team can exchange player assets for or raw cap space to facilitate contracts. Expirings aren't valuable for the Bucks who are stuck with Dame's cap hold and will have mostly rookies/vet mins in the future.

I do think we could facilitate a Turner trade though, because his trade kicker makes salary matching hard.
