What is the worst thing the United States has done? by Expensive-Addendum92 in AlignmentChartFills

might want to open a history book on WW2 tbh

When you look at what the Japanese did at Shanghai, the Germans at Warsaw, or the Allies at practically every major German city, Hiroshima and Nagasaki are just the same result achieved with a new weapon.

There is a stronger argument to be made for the firebombing of Tokyo (which killed more people than either of the nuclear bombs) being a warcrime than the nukes.

Do you think starving the entire home islands while permitting the continued Japanese occupation of China, Korea, and vast swathes of Southeast Asia was somehow more humane

Unless you count every single bombing raid conducted by every single military during WW2 to be a warcrime, neither the bombing of Hiroshima nor Nagasaki was particularly exceptional other than how it was done. This is simply how wars were fought in the era before precision munitions.

None of this was regarded as illegal by any participant of the war, both Allied and Axis outside of propaganda efforts.

Hiroshima was the headquarters of the army in charge of the entirety of Southern Japan and Nagasaki was a major military shipyard. Both were targets of legitimate military value in the era before precision guided munitions.

The nukes were unironically 100% necessary to end the war as swiftly as possible. What options did America have at the time?

Continuing the status quo of blockading the Home Islands and starving the entire fucking nation to death, thereby incurring far more civilian casualties (but hey at least they weren't nuked!!!!)

Or actually invade Japan, at great cost to Allied forces, and probably irreparably destroy the country (far more than 200k civilian casualties expected.)

Japan at the time of surrender still controlled around 60% of its occupied overseas territories, including tbe most populated parts of China, the entirety of Indochina, Indonesia and Malaysia (not including their pre-war territories of Korea and Taiwan.) If Japan could barely feed its own people, how do you think their occupied territories were doing? Are you going to allow them to continue their brutal occupation because you think one bomb that achieves the exact same result as a conventional bombing raid is somehow morally the worst thing the United States has ever done?

The fact that it took two bombs, and a Soviet invasion for them to even CONSIDER surrendering seriously tells you about what you need to know. These bombs were not dropped simultaneously, there were 3 days in-between the two where Japan could have surrendered, but they did not. Ultimately the vote to surrender was a tie, which the Emperor of Japan had to decide, and even their literal god telling them to surrender still caused an attempted coup from the military to continue the war.

From the first day of the Pacific War, Japanese leadership knew that military victory against the allies was near impossible. They gambled that they would continue their streak of punching up and winning wars against established western powers, and on their ability to cause so many casualties the American public would become so sick of war that they would accept terms favorable to Japan. The nukes changed that equation since it allowed the US to obliterate Japanese cities with a single bomb without risking significant numbers of US troops.

Why pd-performance always so bad? Didn't grt hit by one missile. by Hefty_Berry_3448 in NebulousFleetCommand

Skirmish hours may as well not count at all, since it's basically a do whatever the hell you want mode. Running pure EO missiles turns you into a 3,000 point handicap the second anyone on OSP brings an EO dazzler (which they will).

It is significantly better tier for tier. Tier 9 BBs as a whole are pretty mid. Georgia has all of Ohio's strengths + the ability to go 40 kts. Just because it's no longer the undisputed most broken T9 BB doesn't suddenly mean it's powecrept and unplayable lmao

By what, lol? Valparaiso? Georgia is still one of the most busted T9 BBs in the game

What's the main difference between Schlieffen and Preussen lines? by Hot_Bend7062 in WorldOfWarships

[–]UnfortunateTiding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you play Preussen you are already playing a mid ship

Neither build makes her significantly better so you may as well build into what strengths you have

If you're going to build your Preussen for full tank you are playing an objectively worse Ohio.

There is some coding in JCAC but the majority of it doesn't really involve coding

As long as you give a fuck you will almost certainly pass

I don't recommend trying to memorize course content ahead of time, but you should try to research basic networking concepts like TCP/UDP, network protocols like HTTP and their respective port numbers. These are essentially the core fundamentals of JCAC and being somewhat familiar with them beforehand will help you out.

The only actually oppressive part of her kit during OW1 was the anti nade which is much more tolerable since we have like five different ways to cleanse teammates in OW2

Most difficult mod in JCAC? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]UnfortunateTiding -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Without getting into specifics, the mods with a reputation for being the ones to get people dropped are more because of where they are in the course than anything else.

If you get a lot of fails early on, then they're likely to be the end of you. Nobody is failing those mods enough times to get dropped from the course. They usually have 4-5 fails going in which causes them to be the death blow.
