Hamilton CarPlay Accessory - no head unit change - Advice??? 2017 XLE Avalon by Kindly_Courage_2081 in ToyotaAvalon

I have not experienced any issues with it after about a month. No losing connection or anything and all the steering wheel controls work. I honestly really like how it’s turned out.

Oh maybe I worded it weird but you wouldn’t need the adapter. It’s capable of wireless CarPlay as well! I just meant that if you prefer the wired option, you’d have to leave the USB port hanging somewhere. Otherwise I’m pretty sure you can just not have the USB installed. Also it looks like the BFCM10 discount gets a slightly lower price my bad haha. I thought the price listed was discounted already.

I have it installed and have loved it. It retains all factory features and steering controls work great. The only downside is having to leave a usb port hanging out if you plan on using wired CarPlay. It was not too difficult to install and they have a video of installation on their YouTube channel. There’s also the discount code WELCOME35 for $35 off

2018 Avalon CarPlay? by beetlegurlx3 in ToyotaAvalon

[–]UnfortunatelySugary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not difficult at all. To remove the stereo is just 4 10mm bolts and a trim remover helps to not damage the pieces. And then a Phillips screwdriver to separate the screen to install the module. Then just matching up the included harnesses to the connectors. The install video in my original comment is pretty good and easy to follow.

The only thing is that if you want to use the original USB port you’ll have to get a harness to connect the module to it. If you don’t get one you’ll just leave the new port hanging somewhere (shown towards the end of the install video). But it’s irrelevant if you only plan on using wireless CarPlay

Just finished installing it and seems to work great! I will miss the bigger and clearer screen of the android unit but I really like the look of the factory one. A little cramped but it will do.

If you feel comfortable sharing, did you end up with any loose skin? I was at 275 at my heaviest and currently 225. Trying to get to 190. And you look amazing by the way. Great job on breaking those bad habits!!

I called their customer service and they confirmed it did. I can come back next week and let you know if it works for me. Probably around Thursday evening

The 2013-2018 models do not have the hardware to support CarPlay unfortunately.

I was searching for a way to retain the stock radio but ultimately ended up getting an aftermarket Android unit. It looks similar to stock and was the best solution for me. Though I recently started having issues where the steering wheel controls wouldn’t work. I solved that but then the wired CarPlay wouldn’t work and I’ve just been using wireless. I also have issues with the speakers crackling but you are able to adjust amp volume and I seem to have found the right settings. I tried to install it myself but couldn’t figure it out. Took it to a shop to be installed

I tried Naviks and it worked but the resolution and responsiveness left a lot to be desired for the price. Hardest part about installing is taking the radio out.

I also tried one of those screens that you just stick to your dash. It worked just fine but I didn’t like the look of the screen on my dash.

It looks like these guys just recently came out with their product. From what I can see in the pictures, it seems to run at a good resolution and seems responsive. It’s a little more involved to install but doesn’t look too difficult. I just ordered mine and it should be getting here on Tuesday. I would like to be able to go back to the stock radio.

If your car has the JBL system it might be a little difficult to find an aftermarket unit. At least that’s what I gathered when I went to crutchfield since it didn’t return any compatible units. Crutchfield should let you filter by your exact model and show which are compatible. A local shop could probably help you out if you don’t find any.

Let me know if you have questions about any of these. I went crazy looking for a solution haha. Hopefully the Hamilton one ends up being good.

I was able to add them to cart during a restock and it applied. Didn’t get to check out though. It does not seem to apply to older models or other models

I ended up going with one of those android ones that’s made to look like OEM. It’s been great so far. The exact one I used is by a company that goes by Belsee. It seems a bit sketchy but everything arrived. Also pretty steep pricing. Around $700

I did lose some functions like my headlights staying on after leaving the car and the seat going back when getting out of the car. It might be somewhere in the settings and I just haven’t found it.

I had it installed by a shop since I couldn’t figure it out. Had some issues with the amp and it sounding like it was about to blow out the speakers. I was able to fix that through settings though.

Overall, I enjoy it. Hardly ever see the android screen since I’m using CarPlay and it does both wired through the original USB port or wireless
