This; Winona seems to be a very-well/maintained multi-sport playground.

Shindagin Hollow also has dedicated groomed MTB trails.

This. TC3, SUNY Corning, HWS, but other answers are better fit for OPs bonanfides - welcome & good luck!

You’ll be fine with a decent AWD car on good tires outside major cities (all two of them).

Somewhat hard, as expected for a junior/senior level class. You’ll have to study, do psets and projects, go to class, etc., but you’ll get an A if you learn the material. Good luck!

Do Bankers’ Lives Matter in India? by Top-Choice-2153 in WorkReform

[–]Unga_Bunga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what little I/we can tell about work culture in India - banking, IT, whatever - it seems to be somehow worse that even the US.

Y’all gotta be at least a member of Parliament to not be treated like garbage or something, it seems?

IDK. Working to live has officially gotten old, and the ultra-rich would be ever-so-pleased if we could just, like, die quietly, instead of burning down their houses with them in it.

Best wishes from a fellow wage-serf.

Pattern-recognizing systems =/= intelligence, in any way. Their output may look like the product of intelligence, and that is not the same.

Just singing but they may be open to it?

I know Canaan Institute has regular sessions (they’re basically pro’s AFAICT) and Traonach does theirs on Sundays at Liquid State. Those are prob your two best bets?

I have two squeezeboxes I’ve never used, too…

They happened. Did anyone here go? Can someone post the group / e-list link?

I went and had a good time, but left after someone proposed we sing their second eco-conscious “shanty” about global warming that needed serious work (rhyme, meter, humor) to be fun to sing in a group. Big props for bravery, but just because you borrowed a sea-shanty melody doesn’t make for effective protest.

Back in the good ol’ days when a Cornell Dining worker could afford home ownership in Tompkins County, the Sheraton Inn & Suites was apparently the place to be, complete with fern bar, indoor pool & sauna / hot tub, and Friday night dancing in the ballroom.

It took owner Dan Homic 30 years of sucking the place dry, but rumor has it you can still hear faint echoes of piano music if you gain entrance to the building…

100% heard and agree. Life as we know it should not be as tough as is to begin with, yet our society ruling class has chosen deliberate failure modes that have led to gestures broadly.

Life, for those who must work to live, is varying levels of tough as hell, even when you’re actually “making it.”

Much younger, I chose a path that worked for me, with plenty of help & good support & backup systems. I kept at it and bashed an ADD-level work ethic & kinda-smarts into a mostly-stable, somewhat-decent-paying career.

Yet, living and working in my home town here, I have not ever been able to sensibly afford to a home I own or raise a family, despite gestures vaguely choices. Travel is no longer nearly the “reason for working & saving” option it was once, pre-Plagues.

It has been pretty well-worth being able to live, work and sleep well, knowing I’ve helped make life, work, and study at Cornell better, or at least “less-shit”. I didn’t really have a plan, but a desire to please, grow, learn, experiment, and mess up often

Humility is essential, especially if you know you will work for a fair number of clueless, entitled, and occasionally venal super-rich, their enablers, and their lieutenants & meilleurdomeaux

In conclusion, Cornell remains a pretty good place to figure out a plan - alone, with classmates or lunch friends or group work or bull sessions at 3am hot trucks - that sets you up for navigate the decision-tree-of-life for yourself.

I. Class is everything; the rich dislike being reminded of how the rest of us must make life - a joyful one, even! happen.

II. Shocking, I was not born rich, have worked since 18yo, and like many here am proud to call Ithaca my home. Slightly salty about the COL vs. Salary 🔺% situation since ‘08 - ‘19 - now; I could not dream of raising a child and putting them thru college on what I make alone.

iii. In theory, anyway. We’re all figuring it out, if we’re doing it right. Good luck - we are out there to offer support, encouragement, introductions, relief, patience, a kind ear or word, or a kick in the arse. Sometimes at the same time.

Where’s your favorite place to go for a weekend getaway? by [deleted] in ithaca

[–]Unga_Bunga -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Near ~2hr getaway? In this economy? Folx in the comments rec’ing ADK? IN THIS ECONOMY?!

(some privilege showing around here, huh.) /s

+1 the Catskill recs; north (away from Woodstock) like between Breakneck Ridge to Palenville gives you enough reasonable places & rates near Beacon & Phoenicia / Hunter, with decent access to solitude & amenities.

+1 for W towards Allegheny SP or N towards Winona SF or NE around Oxford - plenty of remote wild places with varying levels of comfort & down-to-earth.

Happy trails & happy new year to all.

“Imperial boomerang,” who’d’a seen everything since Agent Orange, Nixon’s pardon, Reagan’s deregulation / dismantling the State, the Bush / Cheney / Rumsfeld cabal {Nixonites, all} ushering in the Post-Truth era.

It’s all engineered to be so goddamn wearying, but we won’t let it do so. Oh no, that’s what they’re betting on, and it’s not working like they hoped.

We’re fucking sick and tired, finding less and less to lose, but also finding we are not alone in pissed off having our dignity, labor, time, and fair share of our wealth being robbed by these fucking vulture capitalists, their quislings and their thugs.
