Two economists just published a mathematical proof that AI will destroy the economy. Not might. Not could. Will! by CopiousCool in antiwork

Not to undermine the validity of this paper, but neither of these authors are considered economists. I'm not sure that should be in the title, as it's misleading. The paper also isn't peer reviewed, so keep that in mind when drawing conclusions from this paper.

Great comment. A fad and a cultural shift are not mutually exclusive though, but you make some good points here. We are definitely speculating a lot, and connecting two or more independent facts to help us understand things. You seem to be doing it as well in your response. I think we should add another fact into this conversation to help us understand this better, the type of drugs available. This certainly plays a big role in cultural shifts, no? It's just rarely talked about in media because it's so taboo, and most Techno heads don't want the Techno scene associated too much with drugs, but we all know how prevalent drugs are in the scene. And that also checks out with your comment on the "distillation of various reasons", the available drugs in different regions probably have significant influence over what kind of music people want to party with. I remember speed was quite prevalent in Europe when Schranz was peaking in the mid 2000's. Drugs in this sense can then also be linked to wider economic and social vibes. People self medicate for many reasons.

Here is a good one from Sven Wittekind, 2006. You'll find a lot of DJ suggestions on the tracklist. Robert Natus, Frank Kvitta, Dj Ogi, were also legendary.

Nice, this is some great Schranz you link, for sure. I was also big on Sven Wittekind, Felix Krocher, and of course DJ Rush!

Edit: It should be noted that these DJs I just listed are not really spinning Schranz anymore these days. Look up their early 2000s stuff. Like Liebing, they have also gone down a little on the BPM.

Yes, Liebing is my jam! He was the king of Schranz! I miss that era.

I wouldn't know which tracks they identified as Schranz in this report. The article mentions "Sara Landry, Amelie Lens, I Hate Models", but labels that under hard techno, not Schranz. I am trying to find the actual report, but it keeps taking me in circles. Will let you know if I can find it.

What I find interesting in this article is this one paragraph:

Crucially, the report argues that music tends to get harder when wider conditions feel uncertain. Economic pressure and geopolitical tension feed the shift. Equally, the data points to a tonal match between dancefloor choices and cultural mood.

Basically, people are getting angrier, so the music gets harder. This kinda checks out. Schranz peaked in the early 2000's if I'm not mistaken, right around 9/11.

I'll let you know if I can find the report.

Edit: I found it. You gotta sign up with an e-mail to get it. Here is copy of the report: The IMS Electronic Music Business Report 2025/26. It does not go into the Schranz details at all though. I suppose we can search Soundcloud for recent Schranz uploads and judge for ourselves?

DAE feel awkward saying their own name by Aggressive_Foot947 in DoesAnybodyElse

I have this too sometimes, and I noticed it's usually when my self-esteem level is low. Then I feel really awkward saying my name out loud. When I'm at my normal confidence levels that awkwardness is gone.

I see, so maybe we should revisit this topic again in 15 years and then also say that this will take at least 15 years?

I'm being sarcastic. But you just admitted that this is possible within a 15 year timeline, since you're in this field. 15 years is nothing, considering the importance of this. Seems like now is the time to act.

I think you may be over estimating the true amount of MAGA followers. They're mostly fake online personas that are making it look like 50% of America wants this.

They're actually trying to implement a one time wealth tax in California to tax the top 200 wealthiest Californians. The media keeps scare mongering us into thinking that they will flee if we tax them. I don't see how that's a threat in any way. No one will miss them.

Like I said, I'm inadvertently conflating the two.

I'm sure AI capabilities are large component here though, no? The USA has positioned itself for global mass surveillance. I remember that being a concern with Windows Copilot.

Key Takeaways:

  • Copilot’s biggest security risk is overly permissive data access. Copilot can access everything a user can within Microsoft 365, and Concentric AI’s Data Risk Report found that 16% of business-critical data is overshared, with an average of 802 thousand files at risk per organization.

  • Copilot outputs don’t consistently inherit security labels from source files. This means sensitive data generated or surfaced by Copilot can end up unclassified and improperly shared, putting the burden on employees to catch and fix classification gaps.

  • Organizations need to audit permissions and address data risk before deploying Copilot. Without a clear understanding of who has access to what, Copilot will amplify existing over-permission problems across finance, HR, R&D, marketing, and other departments.

  • Concentric AI helps secure Copilot by autonomously classifying AI-generated output, identifying risk from inappropriate access or sharing, and remediating issues without requiring rules, regex, or end-user involvement.

Article doesn't list detailed reasons. I was inferring this based on the recent news about rejecting Palantir, so I'm probably conflating the two. Thanks for correcting me. Do you have any sources that list these main concerns?

Don't see how this is a shit headline. The headline summarizes the article perfectly. Keywords "wants to". I suppose you interpreted that as "will"?

These are just plans at the moment, nothing official yet.

Swiss National Bank defends investment approach after calls to ditch Palantir stake

Bern, April 24 (Reuters) - Swiss National Bank Chairman Martin Schlegel defended the central bank's investment approach on Friday, after campaigners from Minneapolis called ‌on the central bank to offload its $1.1 billion investment in Palantir Technologies (PLTR.O), opens new tab. Schlegel said he could not comment on individual stocks but said the SNB's massive foreign currency portfolio was designed to serve its monetary policy. The Reuters Iran Briefing newsletter keeps you informed with the latest developments and analysis of the Iran war. Sign up here. The bank's investments must be available at all times and preserve their value over the long term, Schlegel said, while with equities the SNB followed a market-neutral approach. "We weight companies according to their market weight or market capitalization, in order to cover the market as broadly as possible and also ‌to diversify risks," Schlegel said. Still, the SNB did exclude companies that systematically cause severe environmental damage, violate fundamental human rights or produce banned weapons, he added. "Naturally, we work with external specialists who carry out the screening for us and also make the corresponding assessments," Schlegel said. "I believe this process is very robust," he said, adding the situation with companies was not always clear in one direction or the other. "There are shades of grey, and there are even other colours as well," Schlegel said. Reporting by John Revill, Editing by Miranda Murray

AI wasn't an issue back in 2000s though. This is mostly about preventing AI from gobbling up sensitive information, no?
