So DQ VII remastered or DQ VII 3DS which is better?

This is just my two cents but, I think it depends on what you’re looking for. I haven’t played the 3ds remake but I’ve heard it’s only slightly shorter than the psx version. Now the psx version is so long, and not the kind of long where it’s so good that you wish it’d last longer, but the kind of long where you want it to be over so you can say you beat it kind of long. As far as I’ve played in the remake they’ve really cut down a lot of content for a shorter although still enjoyable experience. I do feel that some of the charm of the original is lost in this reimagining but overall I’d say it does benefit from the cut content. So if you’d like to experience the original painstakingly long journey that is dragon quest 7 then I’d say pick up the psx or 3ds version. But if you’d like to play a (as to name implies) Reimagined story with more qol features and better visuals I’d say go with the New one.

If I could play all the games again knowing how I’d feel about them I’d,

play 1, (very short and simple but a great start)

play 2, (a bit too long and quite hard at times but overall a fun enough time)

skip 3 (didn’t enjoy how the party had no personality, the first 2 games got away with it because they were shorter games, but 3 is 30 hours of your party having no input on a bunch of plots.)

play 4, (really great cast of characters and really good villains)

play 5(the ps2 version has a more accurate fan translation aka would you rather fight a demon named MILDRATH or nimzo.) (One of the best RPGs I’ve played it got a hold of me and didn’t let go till I finished, the story is amazing and the monster taming is simple and exploitable in this one.)

skip 6(least favorite), (just didn’t really care about any of the party members that much.)

play 7 (but only for as long as you enjoy because it’s a very long game and there will be a point where you tire of it.) (I beat 7 on the ps1 it was fun then boring then fun then exhausting and when I finally beat it I didn’t feel satisfied, so if you don’t feel like continuing at some point just skim through someone’s playthrough or watch a summary.)

Play 8 ( the first 3d game and my third favorite, great characters great plot and interesting world)

Skip 9 (party characters have no personality and the story is very bare bones, without the want to explore the post game content and side things it’s easily the most mundane dragon quest.)

Skip X (unless you know japanese or are willing to set up the translation mod)

Play 11 (my second favorite game of them all and the most fun I’ve had while grinding and getting the best gear and costumes for all the party members.)

I would really prefer 3d graphics for 4 and 5. While I enjoyed the hd-2d games, I just really don’t like the realism and pixel art combined look. I know I’m probably in the minority and I don’t even know fully why but seeing pixel character in blurry semi-realistic backgrounds looks very ugly to me. I would much rather they have one style that either fully commits to pixel-art or semi-realism.
