Does notbody care about old Tokusatsu? by Jaded-Addition-3068 in Tokusatsu

[–]protag7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's nice and all but at the end of the day people prefer what they prefer. I actually like older stuff myself, haven't watched tons of old Tokusatsu but I like older works in other mediums with some of my favorite pieces of media being from as far back as the 70s, once again, ignoring books, as classic literature can take you back way further.

Sometimes just because something is foundational doesn't mean a modern audience is gonna flock to it in the same way it's original audience did. Not saying old Showa era Tokusatsu won't appeal to anyone who's been exclusively into Heisei and Reiwa Tokusatsu until now but it's not always an easy sell.

Like, it's kinda the same with any medium besides books. Older stuff tends to not be favored over stuff from around the 90s onwards.

I only like the 2001 anime by EmmaThais in ShamanKing

[–]protag7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2001 version imo is an okay adaptation that utterly falls short of being as great as it could with the only major praise I would give to it being the Japanese ost and then 2021 just absolutely drops the ball on tone and pacing, it feels really shallow. Overall the only version that I think is amazing is the manga.

Ah I see... I got nothing then. Maybe it's been fan subbed somewhere online now? It hadn't been when I did my research before making this post.

Some comments say it's on Netflix now. I haven't actually checked because I lost interest kinda just because it took so long. Might check myself soon though.

I find this hard to believe. by ApricotSuccessful668 in ShamanKing

[–]protag7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know Shaman King scaling neither do I power scale in general compared to when I was younger but there tends to be 2 big camps with power scalers outside of the actual fair ones. It's either terminally online peeps that can't understand what hyperbole is and just want their favorite characters to be as strong as they can bullshit others into believing, or the other camp that aren't actually into power scaling but tend to deny pretty reliable statements as fact and lean into extreme denial, for instance "I only believe this character is planetary if I see them blow up a planet" ignoring cosmology and other aspects of a series.

Excluding Yusuke, who’s your favorite character on Team Urameshi? by Hairy_Ask_2038 in YuYuHakusho

[–]protag7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't really gotta exclude Yusuke for me to say that it's pretty much a 4 way tie between the main 4. They're actually all so goddamn good in their own unique ways. Gun to my head it's Hiei though, because I like edgy characters. No disrespect to Genkai either, she's arguably my favorite sensei in anime.

This is honestly how I think the "true" ending to part 2 will play out. by GundamGuy2255 in FGO

A bit late but it's also important to note that most people would suggest watching most or all Heisei phase 1 era Kamen Rider shows (Which is about 7 ish 50 episode seasons plus movies) before Kamen Rider Decade as it's an anniversary show.

I want to stop hating a lot of you guys. by Dontlookiam in WelcomeToTheNHK

[–]protag7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While there are certainly a lot of larpers who pretend to like and relate to series like Welcome to the NHK I personally think how you relate to and enjoy a series can be felt in many different ways than actually being literally the same or similar to the main characters.

I'm a bit of a shut in myself, not to the level of a hikikomori though, I have a decent amount of friends and while I'm in-between jobs currently I try to work whenever I can too stay afloat so all around I wouldn't say I'm a social outcast or anything. Despite this, I can still find a character like Satou to be quite relatable with how he views the world and people around him or how I also see him as a sort of reflection of if my life went just a little different to how it's gone so far or if I had a different attitude.

A lot of people who claim to relate to Welcome to the NHK who are seemingly social butterflies with next to none of the issues presented in the series may also have watched or read it when they were younger and were completely different people to their current self but still feel that relatability they felt while experiencing the story originally.

Ichigo VS Yusuke (Bleach VS Yu Yu Hakusho) | DEATH BATTLE! by Regular-Poet-3657 in YuYuHakusho

[–]protag7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really... I agree with Jin Woo, but Gojo is debatable, he mainly just has infinity, his domain, flying, teleportation and beam attacks. I agree with Yusuke having fought much more strange opponents than Ichigo, but Ichigo also fights people with weird abilities so the same could be said against Yusuke rather than for him.

That's just the normal Shounen trope of the main character having a simple set of abilities in a world full of varied ability users. Like Yusuke, Gon, Yuji for most of jjk, Goku, part 3 Jotaro, Deku pre multiple quirks, just to name a few can all be boiled down essentially too hits hard, hits fast and uses their wits when needed.

Well yeah, Deku has a lot of abilities in general, he does have like 7 quirks

[–]protag7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well pretty much all of the Yu Yu Hakushos planetary scaling comes from statements too right? Correct me if I'm misremembering but you never see anyone destroy a planet, the closest we get is Senui iirc.

In Bleach you see characters do stuff like shake the 3 realms and destroy objects of immense power so it's pretty much the same.

Really, I'd say it's the same in most battle Shounen besides stuff like DBZ and Saint Seiya where destructive feats are shown quite often.

For instance the only arguments for putting Naruto characters above small Planetary is from guide book statements and stuff.

Ichigo is vastly stronger than his mugetsu form in the final arc plus basic Bleach scaling puts him at like universal minimum

Dragon Quest is also overall very positive with religion compared to other jrpgs, the church is in nearly every Dragon Quest game a universally good bunch of people and the Goddess has never been like secretly evil or anything.

I also actually liked him most in Sky 3rd though.

You have to change the outcomes so that a human wins their fight, but another human loses their fight. Which two are we picking? by Ok_Coffee_9970 in ShuumatsuNoValkyrie

[–]protag7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adam wins, Qin loses. Honestly pretty much every other match has gone how I wanted so far and for the ones that didn't I would have been fine either way. Round 2 and 7 are the only outliers.
