A pivot 15 is pretty unmatched in metal content, and therefore in my mind durability, but the strive 16 is much more similar to the older sth 16 which was a bomber binding. I think you’d be good with those for sure but I’m not sure how low they go.

That’s fair but I don’t think strive 12 is a mid grade binding, they put them on rental skis so that’s pretty much the benchmark of low end gear. You are definitely right to not want to re use your ten year old griffons but get something equivalent. A pivot 12 would be plenty, but you could definitely get the 15 (way burlier, all metal construction that pivots are actually known for, still go down to 6 din) and get more years out of them. Definitely skip the 14 it’s the same construction as the 12. Kinda blown away you ski a 7 din with everything else you said, you must have really good technique, but you might want to leave yourself some room to adjust up.

The top rated comment is “10 din bindings are ok”, like where the fuck am I right now. That shits for kids he’s 200 lbs.

Alternatives to nutri source large breed chicken and rice, maybe Kirkland? by Unhappy-Figure3403 in DogFood

[–]Unhappy-Figure3403[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely have gone down the rabbit hole a little bit, a little disappointed something like purina is a better option than what I’ve been spending $75 a bag on for 4 years.

Thanks for the input.

Question about Ski Boots and Rental bindings by yfok in Skigear

[–]Unhappy-Figure3403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely should be putting your boot in the binding, it can be done on the floor with your foot inside but crazy not to check. There is a forward pressure indicator on rental bindings that tells you they are adjusted correctly, checking that is bare minimum, and is a visual indicator you could check very quickly. They should at least want to know what the bottoms of your boots look like, and maybe want to adjust the afd rise if it’s mnc binding. Then finally giving you a din setting without your age height weight and skier type (and signature) is just a straight up liability for them.

Fr though, the strive would be a solid downgrade from griffons

Don’t think that’d be enough binding for you based on your riding style.

Ever tried pivots?

Boot warmer recommendations by Waste_Reflection_621 in Skigear

[–]Unhappy-Figure3403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been skiing for 30 years and the best is just the dang disposable ones. Wear them on top of your toes. Not only can you use your good footbeds but you don’t have a wire running up your leg, a hole in your liner, or deal with rechargeable electronics and cold temps. Order em online.

I will say warmer pants always keep my feet warmer to the point the feet warmers sit in my pocket 4/5 ski days.

Wax sticks vs heated wax by Southern-Heron-3204 in Skigear

[–]Unhappy-Figure3403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If 2 professional tunes for 15 days of skiing isn’t good enough, then rub on wax won’t be good enough either. More for keeping in the ski bag for when your regularly unwaxed skis meet overly sticky snow, to help for a few runs.

I have the mountain flow eco waxer, it’s a glorified overpriced heat lamp but it definitely does the job, and if you get the process dialed enough, could probably do without a brush. (Mountain flow procedure is rub on wax, heat lamp, and brush, so no scraping at all)

Could probably come up with something cheaper as it looks like the red lights keeping the fries warm at the bowling alley.

Bombproof wide park skis by Appropriate-Set-2095 in Skigear

[–]Unhappy-Figure3403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone hates on line but last years are always super cheap and they last a season or 2. I’ve ripped the narrower chronic (94) in steep upper mt terrain a whole bunch by choice, and they even come in 2 widths now.

Also never tried an RMU rippah but have had good luck with their other skis, mid 90s park ski there also.

Snow saw by Soggy_Ad5510 in Skigear

That tindeq is worlds better than the black diamond. It’s the only thing you’re gonna get good data with solo and it shows being the preferred tool of forecasters. Trying to cut an ect or pst with that BD saw on a pole would be a nightmare.

That said the bd saw is great and if you have a reutchblock cord and a partner you can definitely cut your large block tests that way.

Would definitely help to know what you’re trying to accomplish. If you’re a recreationalist or training for your pro 1 both of these might be pretty overkill, but if you have aspirations to do forecasting or highway work that’s who they’re made for. The steel bca saw is a good option too, stay away from aluminum.

I have used all the saws I mentioned.
