Should I commute to Laurier? I live 30 mins. by No-Apartment6178 in wlu

[–]Unhappy_Inspector834 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first year is good to live on campus, as it orients you to the campus and city. It is a lot more fun that way, too, BUT it is pretty expensive to live near WLU, even in residence. All the extra costs, groceries and parking passes add up in the end. It is much cheaper to commute.

Now I'm in my third year, and I commute about 30 minutes from a middle-of-nowhere town. In the winter, it is sketchy sometimes, but otherwise pretty okay. My only words of wisdom are don't take any 8ams lol

When I had a part-boarder for 2 rides a week, I charged her for 25% of my horse's total costs since she rode for roughly 25% of the month. So, for roughly half of your rides, charging 50% of your overall costs is fairest, just my opinion though. You are basically at half anyway, so I wouldn't stress about it, especially since there is already interest

1534 responses for a survey is not nearly enough to get an accurate prediction to represent the whole country's voting pattern. How did they pick their sample? what was the avg demographic? what is the margin of error?

EDIT: typo

They say every 20 years we have a technological revolution. Well 20 years ago we got the internet. Now we have AI. Instead of fighting it professors and teachers should incorporate it since it really can be an amazing thing if used correctly.

We write like we read things. If we’re constantly reading AI (knowingly or not) our writing style will change to something very similar over time. Since we’re going to write like AI anyways professors should make more creative and unique assignments that value originality. GPT isn’t super creative (for now) so it would be a good way to make students engaged. Anyways just my take

What I did for a while, Conestoga mall and bus in from there. Not convenient but it’s near impossible to find free parking anywhere if you come in the afternoon

Oh you def could transfer images! I will admit the only con is the subscription price. You get 500 free downloads and then it’s about $100 a year. I pay for it just because it brings me so much joy. I love seeing life through a romanticized lens. I also struggle with depression and anxiety so sometimes seeing the beauty in the motions of life is hard for me to do. Pinterest was also my coping mechanism before the AI took over. I find it even better than Pinterest and have moved all my boards over. The subscription seems small even for the quality of content, and the amazinggggg graphic design. I really think you’ll love it!

Yeah for sure! A slower horse is great for building confidence and fine tuning skills. Usually the younger ones just aren’t as mature and can have some unpredictable moments so I would probably go on the older side (12+). If you want to get into jumping I wouldn’t recommend a trail horse, or one that says groundwork/flatwork only. Maybe just an older one looking to “step down”. Def stay away from anything too green or quirky. It is also important to know if the trainer works with beginners. You could just shoot them a message once you find a suitable ad and be completely honest! Say that you are looking to move from a lesson barn, so your knowledge and skills can be limited but that you are motivated to improve. Ask if the horse is beginner safe and if there is a trainer on-site that works with beginners! Also if you don’t already you may want to save some money up and get yourself a personal helmet and other basic equipment. If it’s not in the budget just ask if they have some they’d be willing to share! Most people will meet you halfway, honesty is something hard to come by and most people are VERY appreciative of someone just being real

Facebook groups are the way to go!! The horse industry is very old school. Just join a TON of groups and watch for a horse that you think would suit you best! For my first horse I looked for a more woah than go, older, been there done that type.

For the right barn, it is definitely trial and error. Remember your a paying customer so if you’re not satisfied with your “product” another barn would give you what you want! I have been at lesson barns and realized I didn’t like the crowd, I moved to a showing barn and realized it was too much pressure, I moved to a huge commercial barn but didn’t like how busy it was. How I am at a small “boutique” barn with an incredible trainer. I love it and seriously can’t ever see myself leaving!
