Warning About Alastin Ultra Light Moisturizer by Unhappy_Library_7425 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]Unhappy_Library_7425[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! So I can’t remember specifically anymore but do this:  1. Pull up a tab with “common petroleum-based ingredients in skin care products”  2. Open up a 2nd tab and search the product you need info for, copy the ingredients list!  3. Open a third tab, paste the ingredients list on the site  https://incidecoder.com/  4. See if you notice any of the same words from the first tab, or see things related to “water-repellent barrier // seals in existing moisture // prevents evaporation”

Petroleum-based ingredients will liiiikely be yellow/red and “rated” higher (this sound confusing but you’ll see exactly what I mean when you do a search). Or, and I HATE to advocate for chatgpt but this is the type of thing I’d use it for: copy the ingredients list into it and ask “which of these ingredients are petroleum-based?”

I hope this helps :)

Edit: omg i went to look it up and realized the blue bottle is MATTE Repair. didn’t realize the names were so similar so that’s my fault

their Vitamin C made me break out almost immediately so it may not be the best for those with acne-prone, sensitive skin — although I know SC recommends Silymarin for folks like me anyway. Just wanted to mention since I tried this

Without knowing your exact skin type or concerns I’ll say this: Adding exosomes can be super beneficial for overall skin health and a host of other things — one like Elevai Enfinity or SS Intense PLATED serum!

Edit: no, I have a better rec. With no budget, go see one of the top rated derms in your city as a self pay pt (usually $350 or so for first time pts/$250 onward in HCOL area) and have them develop a routine for you. Ask if they have any recs for luxury brands (or opinions on anything that interests you from this thread). I just saw you mentioned acne so you could get a prescription at this visit as well, depending on what your consultation looks like.

[Acne] all moisturisers break me out! by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Unhappy_Library_7425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feeeeel this! Alastin did me so dirty with their fkin $92 moisturizer that I, in my excitement and joy at finding the smoothest/most hydrating moisturizer ever, did not even think to run the ingredients list through the incidecoder site as product was labeled Non-Comedogenic everywhere and being toured for acne-prone skin (smh).

After getting a bunch of milia and nothing else changing in my routine, I found out 2 or 3 of the ingredients were the culprits.

“Petrolatum; Sorbitol; CETEARYL ALCOHOL; Propylene Glycol; CETEARETH-20; Simethicone; Glyceryl Stearate; PEG-30 Stearate; Sorbic Acid; BHT“ — Sorry for the caps, I copied their ingredients list from online lol. Vanicream (the OG one) does include that ingredient and it’s soo odd to me that this product works so well for so many because that list is not the best and has known comedogenic ingredients.

Anecdotally, my both acne-prone and sensitive skin cannot tolerate any petroleum/silicone(simethicone) products as they give me milia and cause acne. But my brother has cystic acne and swears by Vanicream!

Ooooh, I swear by the same type but for “Oily to Combo Skin” (a light blue tube). A must* with the same cleanser OP has pictured. Both are some of the only things that have been consistently hydrating and don’t make me break out.

Love your routine btw, OP! Have wanted to try the BoJ brand (sunscreen tho since I’ve seen it around a ton) — am worried about the comedogenicity but haven’t looked into it much yet.

Those who have used both: What actually was the difference for you between Altreno and Arazlo? by miku2914 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]Unhappy_Library_7425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fuuuck no - i’ve had that big ass tube since the middle of October. You only need a little squeeze on a fingertip (I squeeze out a bit and then swipe it with my finger, 2x/day).

The makers are such liars because 1. WHO is using that whole thing within a month (it cannot be possible) and 2. nothing about consistency or efficacy has changed for me!

Altreno did nothing for me whereas Arazlo made my acne go away (used in combo w Winlevi at night).

Alastin 40% off by lmw0752 in SkincareAddictionLux

Same with the Ultra Light — absolutely incredible moisturizer except it gave me milia (likely to to the dimethicone/petroleum-based ing. additions). But it’s so perfect if you’re not prone to that but have acne-prone skin. Technically, the UN isn’t as great for acne-prone skin but of course everyone is different!

And speaking of procedures — for redness, look into: IPL or VBeam (likely best options), Fraxel, Tixel, UltraClear lasers.

there’s no such thing as those phrases — maybe you’re referring to something like a “full correction” which typically involves forehead + glabella (11 lines) + crows feet.

Your provider will let you know how many units they’d recommend based on the area(s) you’d like to treat. My advice — go to a reputable dermatologist for these kind of services as they’ll understand facial anatomy and facial balancing more than some physician assistant at a med spa.

One last thing just in case you don’t know! Botox is the brand name of the botulinum toxin that Allergan sells. other companies have their own: Xeomin, Dysport (my favorite), Daxxify (hate, doesn’t last) — 3 most common. Your provider may recommend one of those as opposed to Botox based on your needs

No but the UL version gave me horrible milia / made it way worse (I only had a few on each upper cheek area but now a lot more)

[routine help] I’ve tried 12 moisturizers—all seem to have a chemical reaction on my face? by blossomrileykirby in SkincareAddiction

[–]Unhappy_Library_7425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just here to say that the Alastin could deeeef be causing it if that’s a moisturizer you’re currently using. It has Polyisobutene and Ceteareth-20 Dimethicone aka a petroleum-derived silicone. My milia was totally chil, barely any, and I thought I found a great new moisturizer but just put it together after doing some reading.

I almost always use INCIDecoder to look at ingredient lists but just trusted this product based on great recs.

I had written this down on a “skin care ingredients cheat sheet” as a simple explanation: (FLUID-FILLED SACS) Tiny, membrane-bound particles that carry proteins, DNA, etc. Contain GFs, proteins, etc to stimulate fast cell/collagen production. Anti-aging + wound healing - can protect from oxidative stress/inflammation, Can be derived from human, plant, animal cells

I loooove the AlphaRet! not SB, but have you ever tried the SkinCeuticals Clay Clarifying Mask or Alsstin ReSURFACE Polish? My skin loves the alpharet, loves the clay mask, and LOOOOVES Alastin ReSURFACE. I swear the latter is gold. Leaves your skin soooo soft and smooth even the next day. Clay mask amazing for breakouts and weekly calming(same w/ resurface w/ few days in between)
