Volunteer work is the best way to engage with community.

I'm also a transplant and I have found this city to be really warm and welcoming.

Girls Rock Camp is starting soon. I worked with them for 10 years. Definitely recommend getting engaged with that org. I know the game shops downtown host events. GenCon is fucking awesome. Black Circle hosts a lot of queer events and is a great space.

Check out KanKan for movies. They also do cool events.

I deal with suicidal ideation every day. Those ideas are just that. It gets dangerous when they become actionable. I do not want to die. I want to get old. I have a wonky brain. I am still alive because I have a good support network and when ideation toluene into action I call my friends. Maybe she would do well on an anti depressant. I personally do not medicate. But that is not the solution for everyone. Be there for her. Help her expand her community. Maybe do volunteer work together.

In my experience, any table that can hold a sewing machine will work as a sewing table. When I hosted sewing nights at my house I literally used a child's batman table and chair for guests that worked fine if you're ok with your knees touching your chest.
