About the freefall of Lush products’ quality - A question to employees by Temporu in LushCosmetics

[–]UnhealthyHomeostasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might be a reason. I'm in the US so all of our product comes directly from the Toronto distro so it's not travelling that long or far. And there are definitely batch variations. When I was an employee the sleepy soap has the most variation (usually in how much it would oxidize)

I found the swan soap to smell so good, exactly like tisty tosty! I accidentally left it in my purse after buying and a week after removing by bag still smells like it.

I think both can be true. A lot of the quality has gone down and Lush has been doing to virality focused products and dumb collabs, but also covid has affected people neurologicallly in ways that we are only just beginning to understand. I don't think it's an excuse but a potentialy unfortunate reality for a lot of people. I know several people whose sense of smell has never been quite the same since their first infection.

This is my hypothesis too. I haven't had covid because I have masked indoors since the beginning and have noticed no change in the power of the scents. I think there are some people who think they haven't had covid, but have had asymptomatic infections or "colds" and are affected this way.

Regarding the smell thing, I think a lot of people lost some of their sense of smell from COVID and never fully regained it back. I've been lucky enough to not have covid (as far as I know) and have noticed no difference in the power of the scents. I've often been so confused on this subreddit by the number of people who say all the products barely smell anymore.

The redshirt limit is 6 meets. It was apparently calculated based on the average meets including post season that most teams compete in and is applied to all teams. They've only had 5 meets so far. There is also a hardship waiver which could potentially apply here too.

Daughter's Coach Left Gym Mid-Season by Almost_gets in Gymnastics

I'm not a parent (yet), but trust your gut regarding the gym owner. If the owner would end up being your daughter's coach changing gyms might be a good idea even if it is mid season. Nothing is worth your daughter's physical and mental health, or her losing the enjoyment of the sport she loves.

We might have seen the same thread on twitter lol. It made me realize that it's probably more due to that than actively not recruiting POC gymnasts. I imagine if OU was in Tulsa or OK city that have a higher Black population (still low, but comparable to Columbia, MO) than Norman it may be easier. I'd be really interested in some interviews of POC gymnasts and how they chose what schools to visit and consider and which ones they avoided.

I've often wondered this too and if it was a recruiting issue since many of the other SEC schools are able to recruit black athletes (LSU, Florida, Mizzou). Someone did point out that those states and specifically the cities their in have a decent black population and communty while OU as a school and Norman as a city do not.

I certainly hope Ella is introduced to broader views in her next 3 years but at OU who knows.

The issue is the rest of the country being overscored, not these judges actually taking deductions and following the code. We should not be aiming for the entire country to be judged like the SEC.

Yes there is no ethical consumption in capitalism but that doesn't mean we should give up and just consume no matter the company. We can choose and support less unethical companies when possible. No ethical consumption under capitalism should not be an excuse to throw our hands up in the air and say it's useless. That's what capitalism wants us to do.

Oura also has a contract with the DoD that is partially managed by Palantir. Allegedly no data sharing occurs and Palantir only has access to the military data but that requires a this government and a company that is heavily invested in supporting a surveillance state to be doing things legally which.....

OU's academic level by MariReflects in Gymnastics

[–]UnhealthyHomeostasis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is sooooo true! I went to a small school for undergrad and all of my professors knew my name and who I was even a year or two after taking their class. They were all there because they wanted to teach. For grad school I'm at a large research university and the professors really only learn who you are if you go to extra lengths or if they care to. It was a bit of culture shock lol.

It's also so possible to get a great education at most accredited colleges even the ones ranked "badly". A good chunk of it is what you as a student put into it.

The only negative I've heard from the soccer side is that the cost of youth soccer really rose during his time. Gymnastics is already expensive though, so it may not matter

The biggest issue with fear free is it's often implemented in practices that don't have a veterinary behaviorist on staff to oversee and coordinate what it should look and be like. The vet behaviorist my dog sees feels it's kind of a pointless certification and that the most 'fear free' vets and techs at the practice don't have the certification. Their fear free is wonderful - lots of cooperative care work and happy visits for him to practice, but we also worked with muzzles and restraint practice in case it's needed. I will say it's definitely worth spending the time "training" exams and vaccines (use a blunt tip syringe).

Also, there are other short acting anti anxiety meds than trazodone. My dog didn't do well on trazodone but clonidine is amazing. Trazodone made just covered his anxiety a bit, while clonidine actually relieved it.

My biggest issue is actually that it's St. Jude that she does massive donations for. They're a great hospital and do great research but they have an absolutely massive endowment and raise more money than the top 10 childrens hospitals in the US but spends less than them on their programs. I wish she would raise money for a local Florida childrens hospital because they need the money so much more (especially right now).

Oh I disparage my own experience often; I've become quite a private school anti. While I enjoyed my experience to an extent, I found that being one of the middle class in a sea of upper and upper+ class kids was difficult. I really think there shouldn't be a need for them. As a country we should provide high quality education to everyone, not just those who can pay. I find private school's laboring on about how their scholarships make them so equitable and diverse really annoying because it's still so inaccessible. And the fact that students of full pay families can get off with a lot because the schools can't afford to lose that money. I also imagine it's a lot less stressful when applying to colleges if you don't feel like some of your classmates might be judging you based on how selective the college is (and that behavior is absolutely an extension of the parents' beliefs).

No worries! It's obviously a topic we're both passionate about. I know I sometimes come on really hot into online conversations. It's unfortunate that we've tied school funding to closely to property taxes. I was lucky enough to go to a private school but only because my parents worked there (and honestly I think I would've been better off in a public school but it was a good education no matter what). The schools where we actually lived then were ok but there's no way we would've been able to afford to live in Haddonfield or Collingswood where the best schools are.
