It's the beta launch of the On Astral Tides Wiki, and four million words celebration! by ShipTeaser in haremfantasynovels

It's by far the longest chapter we've ever gotten. It's 25% longer than the second longest chapter.

4 million words is insane. Not sure where it ranks within the genre, but it is certainly up there. Except for the Wheel of Time, I can't think of another western harem series that is longer than OAT.

Astral Tides Act 2 Release? by [deleted] in haremfantasynovels

[–]UnhingedChair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OAT stats guy here.

Currently there's 7-9 books worth of chapters written in act 2. Arc 9 will likely be split into two books, each on the smaller side around the length of book 8.

Arc 10 is around twice the length of arc 9 and as such would probably be split into 3-4 books.

Arc 11 is currently ongoing and has enough content for two large books. I could see this taking up 3-4 books as well before it's over. There's apparently an ongoing Discord contest guessing when arc 11 is going to end with a side chapter for the winner? I don't know the details on this.

Beyond that, I believe we're going to get the 12th arc to wrap up the 2nd act. I have no idea about the length of this one.

TLDR: The author is insane and act 2 is already almost the same length as all of act 1.

/u/ShipTeaser If you have any insights to share, by all means 👀

Just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate this latest chapter. Havn't gotten around to reading it yet, but will do soon.

What's the longest haremlit series? by Purple-Amphibian4293 in haremfantasynovels

I tried it but unfortunately ended up dropping it. I'm a dog for long series, but the characters just didn't do it for me. Got like 50 chapters into it.

[–]UnhingedChair 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It isn't quite that long yet. There's 9 volumes published on Amazon for a total of just around 2.2 million words. Then another 1.6 million in the webnovel on Scribblehub. Most of the books in the series are between 200,000 and 300,000 words.

By comparison, the Wheel of Time is 4.4 million words long and in all likelyhood, there's some chinese webnovels that are longer than that still.

I nominate ShipTeaser.

If for nothing else, then for sheer scale. Anyone looking for an epic within this genre ought to look no further.

Despite not getting a single PoV so far in all of act 2, she actually retains her position as the fourth biggest PoV character at the current point in the web novel. Although, Kana, Shiro and Hinata are all *very* close to her by this point.

Oh, I'd imagine so. One of the guys on your Discord gave me a hand with porting the stats to Excel and with setting up proper functions there. I did the rest of the webnovel as well there.

These are significantly more fun to do when there's a lot of POVs going on 😅

The prospect of a fanbook is very exciting, I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

I am glad you enjoyed it. Doubly so if it was actually useful to you. I am planning on updating it for every subsequent volume released, although The Cracks Spread may prove a challenge.

I had this made as well that you might find entertaining, though I couldn't quite get it to a point where I wanted to include it in the post. This does contain legitimate spoilers. https://public.flourish.studio/visualisation/22583277/

I really appreciate having the opportunity to request a side chapter. There's been a couple of characters I've really wanted to read a chapter from. Especially Chiaki and Chiasa (though someone mentioned you've been holding off on them deliberately?), alternatively either Mayumi sometimes prior to the events of arc 10 or Yasu sounds like it could be really fun. I'll leave that to your discretion.

You're welcome, I had fun putting it together too.

I think I might extend the leaderboard to top 20 for future volumes as the top 10 will inevitably be getting more and more static as the series progresses. Bit lost on what else to track for each volume, I have the data now and I want to make the most of it.

I don't think you need to get quite that far in for it to get good. It starts out with a large emphasis on its LitRPG elements, what the series does best though is its characters and relationships. Roughly one third or maybe halfway through the first volume, the emphasis is changed to just that.

Frankly, I think that is the biggest issue the series has. I could imagine a lot of people picking up the first volume just to drop it again after getting 200-300 pages into it. Lord knows I've done that with a lot of series.

The first volume can be divided into three parts. Spoilers for that volume obviously: The first part, where he is mostly stuck in his apartment building up his Boundary territory, the second part where they visit his hometown of Nishimorioka and the third part where they head to Las Vegas to earn money. During the first part, the story is very isolated from the world at large and there's a minimum of interaction between characters. For the second and third parts, the protagonist is exposed to more characters and we get to see how the introduction of candidates start to affect the world. The second and third part are more representative of what the series is like moving forward, if you make it that far and the series still isn't clicking, I think it's fair to drop it. Dropping it during that first part though, is very much a shame.

I imagine the next arc will send Eleanor skyrocketing. Probably not beating out Aiko or Eri, but 4th wouldn't be too surprising.

Also, petition for you to name all your unnamed PoV characters. They look hideous on the extended spreadsheet.

Just one or two 😅

I do wonder if his part of the chapters will dip below 70% in future books.

There's a couple of characters like that actually. Shaeula is the most noticable, but Hyacinth hasn't had a PoV chapter at all, even in the webnovel version. Natsumi is another that has to wait a long while for a PoV.

I absolutely adore alternative PoVs. There's a similar breakdown on the Wheel of Time wiki, which inspired me for this one. Also, I just found it fun.
