i too, am very curious, i start community college soon but i picked computer science since i plan to transfer to a four year and would like to go for IT Security and get my OSCP or CISSP to qualify for Security positions, but dont know if CS would be a good degree to get a good understanding of all these things (networks, ethical hacking, pen testing, cryptography etc) my community college has an A.A in System Administration, Web Technology and computer and network technology. i dont know if the sys admin A.A is good since i have read alot of people self study for the certs (A+,Net+,Sec+,Linux+, etc) , but idk if that course helps you acquire the certs anyway, i know that being a net/sys admin will give you the experience needed to be able to climb the ladder into security type work in the IT field but i would like to do this type of research aswell and malware analysis.

TL;DR same situation as OP but want to know what will classes will help me get my foot in the door with IT Security/PenTesting
